Here

Heres some pictures, I'm pretty proud of my machining job being a rookie and all

Glad to know Kasama is doing something about it. I'm going to call them tomorrow anyways, maybe I can get a new one sent to me and keep the "re-engineered" one that I have now as a spare.

Billebob,
that was my bad. My original prototype Kasama 90 head had a re-drilled main shaft similar to what is being done to fit a TREX head on a R50. So it has a 3mm hole in the main. I did not really pay attention to the newer edition.
As I said, I am pretty certain this should be addressed shortly and a 4mm will be used on the newer heads. I will likely drill and tap mine as well

3mm bolt

I just discussed this issue with Kasama. Although we believe that the 3mm bolt together with the clamping system can handle the load, we decided that it's best to address the concern people have raised by changing the design to 4mm

All new shipment will have the center hub with 4mm jesus bolt. For people who have the old hub with 3mm, please send the old hub in (to GrandRC) for a free replacement.

Grand RC

I thought it was cool that Grand RC uses US Postal Service. I ordered my head on a Thursday and it was in my mailbox on Saturday morning! And thats from California to Wisconsin. Its good to know I can get parts by the weekend if I order them on a Thursday. Its the first thing I have bought from them, I'll have to go see what else they have.

Tried it out

Well I tried my heli tonight with the new Kasama head on it. I have some issues with it. I have it all setup, I'm getting 13.5 degrees + and - collective, and about 7.5 degrees cyclic on it.

I took it up into a hover at 1800 RPM and the entire heli wobbled really bad. A wobble that would start small and then increase in strength. I moved into idle 1 which I have set for 1850 and it wobbled the same only faster. A few guys at the field said the Orings could take awhile to wear in, and it will get better. So I figured I'd fly for a couple flights. I had two flights in and it felt pretty good, not bad. The third flight I was doing flips over and over just trying to wear things in and all of a sudden I lost control of the heli. I was able to get it level again and autoed it down to the ground.

When I got up to it, one of the links that goes from the flybar to the washout arm was gone. It launched the link during the flight. In the 10 years I've been flying I've never lost a link on a helicopter before.

Now I'm scared to fly it. I'm going to call Kasama in the morning and see if they have ever seen any of these two issues.

Have you greased the o-rings? According to the manaul, O-ring needs to be greased before install and every 30-40 flights. We have about 30 flights or so and the long links (grip to swash) has elongated so they've been replaced. I would suggest going over the link for looseness every few flights.

I lightly greased the orings and I just took them out and they are pretty dry. I'll grease them a bunch and put them back in.

So you are saying that your grip to swash links are bending? The metal rods are? Is that what you mean by elongated?

My link is completely gone, I'll have to see if I have another rod to use. I'm using rocket city links, just like everyone else is using. I can't believe it flew off. Only reason I can see something like that happening is if its under some sort of stress up in the air...

The link holes were loose after 30 or so flights. We just replaced them so we'll see how many flights before these wear out and loosen.

Well I barely had any grease on my dampeners, so I took them out and greased the heck out of them. No more wobbling. Looks like they like to be lubed up instead of dry.

I flew it, it flies great! It's a whole different helicopter now. Seems to be much more efficient, easier to control, and crisp.

I'm still a little paranoid since I launched one of the links on it in the air, but that could have been due to the head bobbling that I was getting cause my dampeners were dry. I'm going to play up high for awhile just until I'm comfortable. Otherwise ya its a nice head now.

Links

Well I launched another link off the head the other day, darn near crashed it too, this was an ever closer call.

I figured out why its happening. Its because the link that goes from the flybar to the washout arms is hitting the new 4mm jesus bolt head that I put into the head block. Its hitting it so hard on elevator cyclic that it pops the link off.

I'll post some pictures. Can one of you guys that has the new 4mm jesus bolt design post a picture of what yours looks like? Are you having any clearance problems with the bolt head and the links?

I'm not sure what to do. Maybe sink the jesus bolt in farther into the head, shave the head off the top of the bolt? Not sure...

I am still using the original 3mm bolt that came with it. If the head hits, you can alway replace it with a button head screw.
