| dct, Do these freinds have the same specs other than RAM as you????? The simple fact is that 512 is an absolute minimum nowadays. I won't deny that. But you don't NEED 1GB to run G3. Turn off all the IM programs, bit torrents, and other ram hogs. Then practice the sim. I ran G3 on my old Dell Inspiron 5100 w/ an ATI 7500, P4 2.66, 512MB and it ran great. I was usually in the 80 fps range on a photofield @ 1024x768. I could run the 3D fields but would have to make sure no AA/Aniso was on. At that point I would get about 30-40fps. Not great but certainly playable. I have to admit that running G3 on my new(er) laptop is a great treat. 1920x1200 17" widescreen, nvidia 7800 GS, 2G RAM, C2D 2.33. But the difference between my laptop and desktop is hardly noticeable unless you stare at the fps counter.
CrazyF,
The basic gist of it is, your NOT going to run G3 on an integrated graphics solution. Regardless of what Intel tries to shove down your throat. Go to your favorite reseller and look in the $150 range. Anything on the shelf in that price range will be more than enough to run G3. If you want to run 8/16X Aniso and 8X AA then you'll probably want to look at the $250 or higher range. If you stick to the photofields and turn off the shadows (Huge fps hog) you could probably get away with an $80 card. One word of caution, try to stay away from the Nvidia 6*** series cards. The only one in that series that actually performed as intended was the 6800GT. Not to mention far better cards are available for the same or less money. |
