As i started to get more and more into helis and fly more and more 3D i was told that the only way to go was bigger. my father who is also my builder has been flying helis since the stone age passed down his x-cell pro built about 13 years ago. it has a very nice ys 61, GY611/9251 and is put together nicely. they no longer make parts for this heli and only some of the modern MA's have compatible parts. as i started flying it i realized there was an extremely bad tail wag, i have tried every single gyro setting and sensitivity there is and i still can't rid of this tail wag. is it a mechanical component? is it something i might be able to replace with parts from a modern MA?

make sure there isn't much if any friction in the pitch slider and tail pushrod. Gain should be low (in avcs mode) about 35-40% usually. (as read on the gyro screen)

by extremely bad tail wag.... does it do a slow long wag or a quick short wag? id start at the servo and work my way back. theres gotta be something loose. bad ball joint or loose tail blades. could also be a sign of a screw about to fall out. does it do it during hovering or when the tail is put under a load?

Could be a bad torque tube also,, if it has sat for a long time, it could have a bow in it, if it was put together to tightly,, You should fit the boom then move it back out about 1mm so not to bind the torque tube,, I have seen this before,,, XGM/VGM

Also you can still get parts for the pro... Try HeliProz South ,,,

He might have just what you need if you have a brain freeze,,

i had no idea the gain was supposed to be that low. i think thats even the lower limit of heading hold on the 401, but on my raptor and t-rex i have been flying at about 70% and have really good heading hold.

and the tail wag is very short and fast and i haven't tried any FF with it just because this tail wag is concerning me so right now it occurs in hover.

also, the way it looks is that it would be impossible to bind the torque tube because if it were put together to tight it would just slide forwards since there is nothing preventing it from doing so. i loosened it up just to check and tried to slide it back and that did nothing since it was already against the back ridge so i slid it forwards until it was in a comfortable position, took a flight an no difference.
