e-BEAM Beam E4 > Wasn't too thrilled with the E4 first five flights...

I've had around five flights on my E4 using my new X9303, (I was using my DX7 on my TRex), and it just seemed so damn twitchy. I started out at 20% expo, and finally bumped it up to a full 35%. I really like the mechanics of this bird, so I really WANT to like it, but I was flying much better with my TRex.
I had to do some head work after my flybar cage came apart, (no loctite to be found on the four screws), and I decided to see just how much throw difference I had between small inputs on the aileron. I was amazed to see that I was throwing much more with my expo active...sheesh!!! I had dialed in my expo the wrong direction!!
Well, I only had time for a quick flight before it got dark with the expo set the correct way, and I gotta say, I now like this bird a lot!!

How Tight are your ball links? I find that in a new kit if you don't ream them out they are really tight.. Makes the heli fly really bad but once you ream them out the thing will fly really smooth

The ball links were all real tight. (I bought the heli mostly assembled for a good price, and was assured that the whole head had been gone through and loctited. Looks like the cage was missed however.)
I went through and resized all the links before the first flight, so the head is real smooth.

I noticed the feathering shaft bends a bit easier than the V2 shaft as well.

Are the fiberglass blades available through Advantage yet?

I have the tight ball link problem myself.... I tried to pinch them slightly with some pliers and broke one... unfortunately the kit doesn't have any extra so I have some more coming to me soon.. oh well. win some and lose some....

Justin,
Get a ball link sizer. They're cheap (like $10) and make your life sooo much easier.

yea, before my first flight, I used the reamer tool and made all my links silky smooth.

Also make sure your swash is nice and smooth also and doesn't stick.

You more than likely will have to sand the flat part of the teflon ball cradle so it will not bind the swash ball when tightened.

I had to do both things on mine, work on ball links and the swash teflon ball holder to have the commands smooth. Once this was done, I discovered the really good heli BEAM is.

I have just come back from the field where I could do 3 flights with no wind. It was just tooo wonderful.

my swash came preassembled from the factory. I just needed to add the ball links and outer ring. I tried to take the swash apart, so I could loosen up the ball but couldn't get it apart. So what I did was use my finger to move the ball around after I put some silicone grease on the ball to lubercate it, and that worked well. I lubed both sides of the ball and it was smoother than before.

Question though. Does the top cap screw onto the swash?

If I understood well your question, the answer is YES.

And if the teflon ring is not at the right measure with the ball, then by screwing it in place you will have a tight swashplate. Still it is meant to be well screwed and the swash smooth as silk.

Spare swash teflon cradles can be purchased to rebuild worn swash as well.

One area you may pay attention is the tail case to tail pitch lever bracket. It is held there in position with a tiny ledge cut into the tail case. I've never had the tail case busted in a crash. However, in a crash, the pitch lever bracket that is attached by a single philips screw will twist and mangle the tiny ledge.

This will make bracket alignment and locking it in difficult.

I put a drop of CA prior to assembling the bracket so that one screw will prevent it from lifting only and the CA helps it from twisting and mangling the ledge.
