Hey I'm thinking of getting a micro heli before my logo 10.
I was wondering if i can get some opinions on each heli.
I'm looking into the piccolo right now but not too sure what else there is. I want a collective helicopter for more control

thanks
Keith

Heli

Get the Eolo, its a good heli, strong, and fully capable heli.
as a beginner, just add 8 cells pack, radio, and you done.

interesting. Do you have a manufacturer's site where i can find more info? i just checked it out on the rcmarket. I was caught by the shaft driven tail rotor. I like the idea of running the tail motor off the main motor. Less to worry about really. Plus the collective pitch got me. Do you know any site in the US that sell this kit? i dont' want to have to pay a lot of shipping from overseas. Also are those 8 sub c cells like the ones used in 1/10th touring cars? When i get the hang of the heli flying and get confident, can i use other mini heli bodies on it? Also I have a lehner 5300 brushless motor and a schulze 18.61 controller. Can i use these for the heli?

Thanks,
Keith

Eolo

Keith

you can check LHS, they might have them, otherwise they are out of stock.
Eolo is a good success, and selling very Quick.
as for the shaft driven tail, nothing wrong with it, because you have the autorotation one way unit on the main gear.
as for the manufacturer site, go to www.robbe.com, look over there.
if you need more info, contact me, i will help you.
as for the cells, yes, its sub-c x8 pack.
i am not familiar with your motor, but if its 480-500 size, it will fit.
as for the shipping, its not too expensive, since the Eolo is a very compact package, and its approx 25$ ship to usa by Air mail.

Hey,

Ok i'll be looking this summer...i plan on researching helis this summer because i want to get one this fall.

Oh i didn't mean there was anything wrong with the shaft drive. I actually like it better than having a separate motor for the tail rotor. It should make the rear more responsive

My motor is a 540 size motor that i use in my r/c car. it gets about 5300 rpm/volt and can run up to 10 cells.

I'm going to check out the site before i ask any questions about electronics.

thanks,
Keith

yf22k:Keith: I personally would not recommend starting the hobby on a picolo. The standard picolo is fixed pitch which is quite a bit different in flying characteristices then a collective pitch ship. I have not flown the collective pitch (new) picolo, but you would be able to get a glow 30 sized for almost the same price!

Collective pitch vs. fixed:
The decent rate and the decent control will vary quite a bit. With fixed pitch the model will be more bouncy and unstable. Your adjusting the main rotor rpm on decents quite a bit, when they drop relatively low the senitivity of the model will change around center and be less responsive, even without/with expo it will vary.

With collective pitch setups a goal in the setup is to keep the rpm as constant as possible, this gives the best over all control in any situation. This is not possible with a fixed pitch ship obviously.

Also, the size...
The size of the disk on micro or the picolo or smaller ships smaller then the 30 sized are much more effected by air turbulence. For example indoor flying with planes etc... ( more then likely you would not be able to fly it outside due to wind. Also I think because of the smaller disk its inheritly less stable.

RE tail belt/shaft vs seperate tail motor:
At least the picolo standard is like this, I found it hard to get the tail just right and found there was actually a lag of tail authority.

I would go with a glow, 30 sized helicopter to start off with, because of cost, power/weight ratio etc... etc....

Hope this helps, good luck,
Dean
