hey guys i am pretty new to heli's and the field i am currently flying at i am the only resident heli pilot so i have no where to turn for such a silly question. i crashed my trex 600n and had just made the comment earlier that day that i neede to go through and lube everything and give it a good service. well i guess the gods really wanted that so i desided to do some upgrades and clean her up. well my problem is that some of the parts like my regulator and align switch i had double sided taped to the frame however even though i clean it with alcohol everytime i fly i still have the oil residue that will not allow anythig to stick.
what can i do about this? i was not sure what to use as i was afraid something to abbrasive might harm the carbon fiber.

thanks in advance for the help.

Use detergent and water to thoroughly clean the oily areas that you want something to stick on. Use Windex glass cleaner to wipe the nitro off your heli after every flight - careful not to spray on bearings.

I use windex for cleaning absolutely everything on the heli. Get's off the oil with no hassle at all. Some people use 409 oven cleaner, that apparently cuts the grease really well too. If you get your bearings, just re-lube them.

Ok, For a GOOD cleaning, Use Simple green. Make sure you are in a well vented place. as the fumes will make you cough.. the Simple green cuts the fuel easily.. Follow that with a nice shower of Iso alcohol. Then wipe off and shelf it for next week.

If you are REALLY into this money pit hobby like me. Go to Harbor freight and get a small paint gun and hook it up to your simple green or Alcohol supply for a "pressure washer" solution..

You do need to take care to not spray the electronics too much with the simple green..

As for spot cleaning the frame for sticking double tape to it.. Use Goof off to remove the residue and fuel. Then follow with the alcohol and you are good to go.

Hope this helps.

Tech Tip of the month: Check all your bearings before you pack it up for winter. Oil = no rust!

Good ole 91% alochol, Wal Mart sells it in large bottles, put it in a spray bottle or just put a spray handle on the bottle itself, works great, been cleaning mine for years this way.

I've been using denatured alcohol from Wal-Mart. Put it in a spray bottle and just spray and wipe. works great!

Armoral window wipes works good for me. Same concept as windex without the worry of getting bearings or electronics and leaves no streeks

Go electric, as clean at the end of the day as it was at the start of the day But anyway, what worked for me on my nitro helis was alcohol mixed with a little water in a spray bottle, but if your flying all the time expect your heli to either be oily all the time or spend an hour or so cleaning the heli everyday.

You laugh about this, but I know someone on this board whose name I won't mention (cdrking ) who used to do that with all of the plastic parts on his Raptor when his wife wasn't looking!

Windex and paper towels!!!

takes away all the grime left behind by my nitro planes on the covering. might be a little harder to get into all the nooks and crannies with a nitro heli though
