I am still waiting for someone to bake the Hitec servos, Lipos, and Regulators that are in the greenhouse with the 6014 (and canisters).

Patient: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this!"
Doctor: "Don't do that any more."

It looks to me like you guys should sue the designer of the plane for the greenhouse radio compartment. Of course, the owner of the plane could possibly afford a white towel and put it over the clear canopy when not flying but that would mean taking some personal responsibility.

This is a helicopter forum. In the typical heli, the receiver in the canopy (not generally clear) rarely gets much above ambient.

The moral of the story is that greenhouses work. Take that into account when you design planes and when you fly in Arizona.

Arizona is not the center of the known universe. Some people do indeed fly in the ice and snow.

But is it too much to ask that the new electronics work in the same environment as the old stuff? If the sun happens to heat up the canopy a little too much in an IMAC plane, $$$ shouldn't be lost with the risk of doing property damage and personal injury on top of it.

Yes! Lame excuse for bashing a brand.
In older days I used NiCad's and they gave good power at -15C, nowdays I use LiPo's and voilaa: They do not provide the same power at -15C.
Demand a recall of all LiPo's??? Bashing a brand by trying to connect ignorance to loss of $$$ and risk of property-damage and personal injury?
Operate your gear according to manufacturer spec! Outside this spec's, and you are on your own.

It is a good thing with forums like this, that people can learn from others. The downside is that some tend to start a campaign out of everything.

You have the wrong audience here, everyone on here will follow the final outcome of whatever Futaba says or suggests, myself and a lot of the guys at Flying Giants are coming up with very cleaver light ways to keep the receivers cool.

The problem is the mass market that does not read the Internet or is new to the hobby and just just buys what they need. There were no instructions provided period with the FASST conversion stuff. No one wants to see anyone get hurt including the new guy that is oblivious to all of this. As you may have noticed Futaba did not publish any operating temperatures for these receivers yet. The real problem is the technology exists for higher operating temp IC's. Look at brand X (no issues).

Futaba simply missed the boat, if receivers have been installed a certain way for 30 years and you want to change that then a company needs to have a campaign to educate and inform it's consumers. Remember 160 degrees seems to be the magic number but people have had them fail as low as 137 degrees. Would you tolerate you cell phone not working left if your car, how about your black IPod on your arm in the sun, how about the radio in your car, lastly would you tolerate your car not starting on a hot summer day. No, and I am sure all of these items have an operating temp well below that of 130 degrees and they also do not have the inherent potential to kill someone.

"Look at brand X (no issues)."

We don’t know that, I use brand X for 1.5 years, I had some of those brown-out’s, nothing to do with the rx dropping below 3.5V because I only use 6 volt batteries, yet just last week we lost my Avistar trainer due to a brown-out with a AR7000, can it be heat related? It had the latest software! We don’t know because we’ve been blaming the brown-out on the low voltage, who knows man. I was able to make a FASST 617 to stop working at 171F and an AR7000 (thicker case) close to 200F.

I will continue using these systems, just follow the instructions!!
From the FASST 7C manual page 17.
“The receiver contains precision electronic parts. It is the most delicate radio component on-board the model and should be protected
from vibration, shock and temperature extremes.”

Anyway temps above 98F I’ll be in the shade having a few cold ones.

Notice the intentional lack of temperatures. BTW the TM14 and 6014 come with nothing in writing other than a big price tag. Every other Futaba product has temperatures, what does extreme mean anyways. For the Space shuttle the black tiles are rated extreme at 3000 degrees. So to me the word extreme would mean anything outside the the requirements of the application for which the product would serve it's intended purpose. 140 degrees is nothing in a dark colored airplane, or under a clear canopy in sunlight. See this post. http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...html#post453283 . I will fully agree with you that steps can be taken to reduce the risk of failure. But what about the guys who do not read forums or are new to the hobby?

Okay after reading this thread it has occurred to me to use the Eagle Tree E-logger and their Micro Temp Sensor mounted on the 6014 to see what the flight temps are.

Who's got one?

From the 14MZ Forum, Bill Baxter of Futaba Hobby Services in Champaign has stated that the problem has been reported to Futaba Japan. When there is an answer, it will be posted.

Twitch in two 6014 ..... it could be the heat...????

I have been flying a 14MZ for two years without problems, great radio.....!!! recently I got the 2.4 TX & RX (6014). I have two helis, Align trex nitro 600 and raptor 50 se. Both have a 6014 receiver. Now..... last weekend I flew the raptor for 15 minutes, everithing OK. Second fly, after 10 minutes it sudenly "twitch" to the right (like a very fast impulse of right aileron.....). I got surprised and I tougth....it was me...? I started to just hover the heli in front of me in order to watch if it would happend again..... sudenly there was the right aileron twitch..... in miliseconds... and it started to happend again.... I never lost the control.

I stoped the heli and went to review if there were a bad or lose nut or something; everithing ok. Then I started to fly again.... after AND just after 8 or 10 minutes it started again.....twitch the right aileron....it seems like if the TX could be affected by the heat .... I know it could be such not possible.... (temperature of the OS head 92° celcius once I land the heli and then check the temp).

I use a Duralite battery with a regulator, Gyro 401, OS 50, RX 6014 well placed antenas, 14 mz with the last software update.... My radio battery was around 65% and duralite indictaes 7.6 (yellow end).

I hope you could give me some idea about wath to do..... by the way, that day I decided not to fly more the heli and I started to fly an electric plane. No problem at all.

Here comes the fun.... Last weekend My Align wich has the exactly same gadgets (servo 611 instead) DO EXACTLY the same twitch, just a couple of times........ Both helis have a 6014 RX...... I insist, when I flew my planes I have never had a twitch.... it is important to let you know that my planes have the 2.4 617 7channels receiver..... So, it could be the 6014.....? os as described on this post, it could be the internal heat on the canopy the twitch cause...?

I live in Guadalajara, Mexico. A friends of mine (Ernesto Jimenz and Javier Arreola) review both helis, both great machies, well enssambled..... really we do not know what could be happening....

Thanks in advance for any advices....

If it was the heat "issue", you would have crashed. The receivers that are overheated (so far only on the ground, between flights) have apparently totally shut down.

Sounds to me like you have a failing stick encoder on your 14MZ.

Erich,

Exactly......... so I wonder what is the real cause?..... I do not go forward with the idea of 14mz stick failure because it does not happend with the planes....

By the way, I fly an extra 260 with 50cc using a 7 channels 2.4 rx (617). I´d like to think that is the radio, so maybe it need a new potmeter... but the rare thing is that twitch just appears after 8 or 10 minutes of flying on helis using 6014.... never happened on 617 2.4 on my planes. I will put the 617 on the heli and lets see if it occurs again.

Any idea.....?

Regards......!

Sticks

If you think you have a bad pot, try this, make a blank model max A,E,T,R to 140 percent end points and then go to the servo screen and super slowly move the sticks in any manipulation you can think of, if any of the bars jump high or low you have a bad potentiometer on that axis. They just simulate a flight or try and duplicate the conditions in which you had problems and see if any of them jump. Also try it with the program and model you had issues with, also have the heli there and on and watch it.

Also it might not show up in a plane. In a plane you are not normally moving the sticks to there extremes just to fly around and when you do you are normally slow and the control surfaces lack response. I say this because a friend had a pot go bad on the throttle on a 14mz and never saw it on an airplane but one day inverted about half stick the heli planted itself head first.

hi

I hav ea two year old 14mz, and two one year old stratusses, using 6014.

they both starting at the same time, to do some twitch/flip on the elevator.
In the servo monitorscreen, i coukd see the servoes jumps.
I tried a friends 14mz, and the problem was gone.

I have send it to robbe germany...

PS: check heli freak, futaba, 14 mz

What about using one of those "thermal cool" packs wrapped in a paper towel (to absorb moisture)in your fuse? They last for about an hour.
