Anyone have any GOOD photos or can explain how they got the fan shroud of the stratus to fit around the head of the OS SZ-H pumped engine? I ended up butchering my fan and basically cutting it right above the head to blow the air down to the engine head, I don't like this idea and just ordered a new fan shroud, I don't think the viper head is out for the SZ-H engine yet, just the SZ if I understand correctly. Photos / ideas of people that are running this engine with a statrus would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

The current Viperhead is completely applicable to the current SZH engines.

There is no perfectly simple way to get the head under the shroud. In my case when I was flying this model, I chucked the head up in a lathe using one of the horrible piston locking tools (great for this task, however) and turned the OD of the head down a bit. At that point you can either neatly cut a half circle out of the front of the shroud to clear the top of the head or use the lathe to remove the top fin as well.

The next generation OS 91 will not be using this type of head.

Ya, that is what I was affraid of.. On my old Tempest I had a friend that had a lathe do a similiar thing to my head, but still cost me $100. I guess for 130 I can just order the Viper head as you stated it would fit just fine. I wonder how others has dealt with this or used a lathe as well? Ya the head is just huge on the OS's and MA never adjusted there shroud to accomidate.

I don't have pictures unfortunately, but I pretty much butchered my shroud as well until it fit around the head. I have not had a single problem with this setup.

Just took the easy route and ordered a Viper Head by OMI. Sucks you got to basically have a lathe or butcher the fan to make it work without putting another head on it, but that is life i guess.. Looking back I wish I would of just got a YS, cheaper, no butchering and probably runs good as good if not better, obviously opinions might vary.

Thanks all for the feedback, doubt I will really have to cut any of the new shrough with the OMI head, due to it being alot more narrow.
