Congrats dude. I heard you need longer screws for the 8717s but that's all.

If you don't crash, nothing.

On my second N9 I ran a few links too tight and now I'm going to replace some of the link balls after 140 flights cause the chrome is missing. Use the hypersizer to custom each link. I know its a pain but the links are very tight if you don't. There are a few things you need to get right when building the kit; tail yoke, tail thrust bearings, hub and clutch alignment, engine fan and shroud alignment, etc. I tried to capture all these things in my building tips file but its good to go through the old RR pages as others have posted good suggestions. Also, pay close attention to the diagrams and assemble the parts as shown. With any heli you should trial fit all the parts and check that the parts fit well and the right parts spin true. If you find a problem or need help ask here.

Chuckie got the list right on what to pay close attention to. I see that you have the hyperhub and hyperdrive, you will like the hub setup and you also will not be cussing the stock tail as it has to many parts to align. The 8717's will fit just fine, i have them in both of mine. Longer screws will make you feel better, approx. 6-8mm longer work fine. I replaced with 16mm length.
Also one little needed thing i noticed last week on Botos' is that he used the spacers that come with Radix blades and placed them over the tail push rod at the end where you have to CA the threaded rod in for the ball links. That way you have a place to hold it with ball link pliers without damaging the carbon push rod, don't ask me what made me notice them. Matt told me that that setup is or should be in the new kits that are being shipped.

Longer screws?

Hey Chuckie I remember you saying to use longer servo screws. What's good, Dubro and how long?

Rich,

Dubro, what's that Go to RR home page and look for RTL Fasteners.

I don't know what length but Fastsrt is suggesting 6-8mm longer than stock. The stock size is 2x12mm but I don't think you will need 2x20mm. It will take forever to unscrew them without power tools Also you want to get a drill bit and drill a deeper hold in the servo support stand offs. Otherwise the longer screw will split the plastic stand off in the servo mount (110-215).

I replaced mine with 16mm length. The predrilled holes in the mounts are 10.5-11mm in depth and the 16's worked fine with no troubles and no more predrilling. I don't have a servo that is uncovered or i would measure the thickness of the mounts to get an overall measurement.

Check the clearance on the fan to the shroud. Check for loose bolts.

So how was the 4.5 flights?

the .5 flight was a night mare I think my lipo got low and reset my 611 or I have a problem in the tail. The tail let go on some hard piro's.It made to ground in one piece.

Almost STUPINEER, sounds like a good save.

If the 611 reset in the air you would not have saved the heli.

Check your main gear hub end cap screws (110-149) to make sure the sprag gear didn't slip in flight. Try to turn the tail rotor /tail hub while holding the rotor head, it should not slip under any force.

with the blades in the grips i can turn the tail blades with not too much force.
I have been able to land serveral of my helicopters with out :tail blades, ball links falling off, broken belt. you just have to be quick on the throtle hold.If the heli rolls over hit the hold for a second you can level it out. I have crashed a couple too.

What part of the tail drive is slipping? Can you check just the hub? Hold the main gear and turn the head, does the sprag slip?

Yeah i had that problem as well, I thought that my boom was to long for a while. i don't remember the measurement but my boom was lets say 33-1/4" and my hyper drive assembly to gether was 33". i had to move the hyper one ways. They were choke up tight againts the ends so i left about a 1/8 gap on both sides and now it works fine. I could of cut 1/4" off my boom though and i would of worked out fine. At least thats how i see it.

Shawn Pierce,

Are you saying the hyper one ways are not tight up against the ends on both sides? If true that's not good. The tail gears could strip or overheat and strip. I don't know what the front bevel gear would do but the pressure from the crown should push it toward the rear. However, both tail box input shaft and front transmission shaft should not be allowed to move.

The inserts in the TT should be longer than the one way bearings so I don't follow what you found. The TT ends should have some gap between the TT inserts and the hyper one ways. The TT floats on the O rings so on the first few fast piros it will move toward the tail box. At this point, the front TT insert will still fully engage the front one way.

no they are not. If i do that my shaft is too short for the boom. by at least a 1/4" and my shaft slips out the one way bearing. Seams like my only option. i looked at it again and the front is up against and the back one is offset by 1/4".
