Flybarless Rotor Head Systems > Someone confirm for me 600N & Vbar

Got the Vbar setup with the Mikado head conversion on Friday, and got it all installed. I just feel like I haven't done enough work on it, it can't be this simple. Did all the install stuff, sensor mounted on the gyro plate above the cyclic servo with the wire facing forward, main box on top of the radio tray above my AR7000.

Used the newest setup software with the built in 600N settings, and told it what servos I have, set the travels on the tail servo, and the collective range on the left side of that tab, clicked the finish button and that's it. The swash moves the correct directions with the stick, and when I tilt the heli the swash moves the opposite direction from where I tilt. The swash doesn't move smoothly like before the V-bar, it's jumpy and moves like a heading hold gyro (which I guess makes sense). Went into the live menu, and my stick motions register on the bar graphs in the correct directions.

It all just seems to easy. Anything I should check that I haven't done? I guess I expected it to be more of a production than it was, and simplicity makes me question if I screwed up. I'm hoping to go fly it in a few hours, so someone set my mind at ease before then, please.

I guess all the V-bar guys were out flying today. Well, I went out and tried it, and it was a complete success. Took off nice and smooth, and flies very well. Not really a whole lot different than with the flybar, except there is a lot more power, and the elevator is WAY too fast, and the aileron is just a little too slow. Clearly I need to do some tuning.

It does fly well, it's different than a conventional heli, but it's not much different. I imagine that as I change settings it will start flying differently than a conventional heli. About the only thing (besides the power difference and the difference in elevator and aileron speeds) that I noticed is that autos are strange. It has more hang time, but the controls maintain their authority until touchdown, so I was over controlling for the end of it. A nice little benefit is I generally hold a little bit of forward cyclic coming down with an auto, but the V-bar kept the heli on track the whole time with no help from me. Pretty cool.

Yep. I've got 55 flights now on a v-bar equipped machine, after 30 years of flying helis with flybars. Got it flyin' just the way I want it to. And although I can make further experimental changes if I want to (and plan to as I get the urge), no need to at this point. It's "pretty cool".

Is the v-bar perfect? Nope. But a way better method of flight control than a heli with a flybar. I'm not goin' back .

Take care, Dave.

Cool, I'll do that a little later today when I get to my computer that has it on it. Thanks.

no problem.....

the way they have it with the new dino screens added does make it way easier now to setup. the vbar rocks......

Thanks, I went through yours, it's certainly more extreme than mine, I'm going to try it out today, I had to change some things to compensate for my different servos and sensor direction, so now everything moves right on my heli. I figure I may as well try your setup, I'll have my computer with me at the field today, so I can always go back if need be.

cool let me know im also using 100% on my endpoints not 75% like most use , and i use the cyclic ring so theres no binding with 100% endpoints.

Man, that's awesome. It's like a whole different heli with your setup. I did turn the cyclics down a bit as it was faster than I like, but what a difference. Now it doesn't fly anything like a flybared heli. I was in 17mph gusting to 25, and the thing was very stable, tracked perfectly, and was extremely agile, not characteristics that normally go together. Actually, normally I don't fly the 50 in those winds, I fly my gasser, but it was actually easier to fly the 600N than my gasser in those winds. That really says a lot.

cool deal glad you like it, yup i like mine being real fast on cyclics. everyone i sent my file to said the same thing its way to fast.....

but thats the good thing about these is it can be tumed to your liking.
