e-Miniature Aircraft Razor - Ion-X - Bandit > Ion Head Set-Up?

Just finished Ion X2 and checking blade pitch. DX 7, Futaba 9252 servos & MA flybar lock. All head linkages set pre manual with attention that everything is square and level at center stick. (No sub-trim dialed in and all Travel Adjusts at 100%.)

Now, I have exactly 0 pitch at center stick, but more positive than negative at full stick. At 100% Swash Mix PIT I get + 17 degrees and - 14. At 80% PIT, + 14.5 and - 12.

What would be causing this and should I correct and how?

Thanks, Joe....

Are you using the big Futaba servo wheels? If you are at the outer holes (30mm) and everything's square, washout arms parallel, radio at exactly neutral at zero stick, then it IS at the right spot for zero pitch up to the swash (MA machines are very precise). If you are taking a "reading" on the blade itself, and adjusting linkages to get the blades to zero at this condition, and then finding that the pitch range seems off, I would suspect that your blade "reading" was not correct. Try dialing down the swash mix on pitch until you get 24 degrees (or whatever your prefer) of travel from high to low stick. Then go back and be more careful, double triple check how you're using your pitch gage, and see what linkage adjustments need to be made to get zero on the blades. The upper and lower pitch range should then fall right in.

I am using the large servo wheels, at the outer holes, that came with the Futaba servos. However, I measure the ball being out 20mm. All linkage lengths are per manual, I have not readjusted any. I did spend time picking which hole on the servo wheel would best give a 90 degree angle to the linkage. Joe....

My bad on the typo. Yes, if you have the 20mm out holes selected, and took the time to select the right one for perfect neutrality at zero subtrim, you're golden. I thought of one other thing, to double check that you don't have a pitch curve other than +100% to -100%. If your washout arms are perfectly parallel to each other at mid stick, it really only can be offset pitch gage or radio offset. I've setup 3 Ion's, and they're always a pure pleasure to do the mechanical setup, because you can get it so precise.

Yes, I am at a linear pitch curve, 0 to 100. However, I did note the washout arms are not exactly parallel to each other mid-stick. Did not think that little amount would make a difference. Better take another look at that. Thanks, Joe...

Just adjust the three rods going from the bellcranks up to the swash until the washout arms are perfectly parallel with exact mid stick on pitch. Then adjust for zero on the blade grip links and flybar links so the mixer is also exactly parallel at zero. Then you should only have to adjust swash values in the radio to your tastes.

Are you using alot of subtrim?

There is a bug in the JR/DX line where if you use too much subtrim & activate EXP function to get rid of interaction you get this effect.

Solution is to re-do the servowheel with minimum subtrim.

No sub-trim. But thanks for the warning. Joe...

Thinking this through, seems like the first thing I should check is if the swash is moving up and down an equal distance from center. That should eliminate a lot. Joe..

Also check that you havent any mixes enabled that interfere in the radio.
