I'm working on my resume and would like a couple of experienced people to give it a look over and give me some suggestions.

It's targeted towards an Avionics/Electrical/Technician spot.

Any takers please PM me.

Thank you in advance!

TTT

I received one reply with some great tips, just wondering if anyone else wanted to give it a shot.

Man I sure am finding it hard to summarize 10 years of experience into a one page outline document.

Is it pretty critical to keep it to a one page minimum for a resume? I know it needs to be straight to the point without fluff, so looks like I'll have to find a way to just tighten it all down. Not fun stuff!

i cant help ya as im leaving on vacation but you are right. you do not want to list EVERYTHING you are able to do or ALL of your qualifications. You want to cover only what applies to the specific job. obviosly spelling grammar and punctuation (some of my weaknesses) need to be in order. The one page simply needs to tell them why you are the guy for the job. if you list extra stuff they will think you are a know it all or will think you are over qualified and wont hire you. why hire you will all of your experience and have to pay you 35 an hour when they can hire someone else who knows the job with a little less experience and can pay them 25 an hour. find out what they are looking for and give them exactly that on your one page resume.

You ummmmm.... forgot to capitalize a few words at the beginning of a couple sentences... (not a mistake you'd want on your resume)

lol just kidding... I blame the alcohol.

I think anyone who has ever had the task of looking through resumes for candidates will tell you the same thing...you really gotta get their attention right away, brief and to the point. I've gotten multi page resumes from people that I literally pass over...I can't be bothered. How many ways can you demonstrate that you are qualified for "X"?

Pick your top 5 relevant strengths and highlight them (not literally). The 1 page rule is critical. Remember, the purpose of the resume is to get an interview, NOT to get the job.

I was not getting interviews until I restructured my resume to have the objective on top, then I listed my core 'qualities' or strengths. Then I went into the rest of the BS resume stuff.

Remember, hiring managers are going to scan your resume in abo0ut 15-20 seconds. If you don't get their attention in that time frame your resume will get filed into the round cabinet.

Ain't that the truth. I'll give you my advice however when ever I give it no one wants to listen to me because they already think they are the resume masters. I've had my resume professionally critiqued and was always told it was very good. I still get about one phone call a week from people asking me for interviews even though I'm not submitting it to anyone.

Some quick advice
-keep it short and to the point
-list what makes you the most valuable from top to bottom, this usually goes like, degrees/education, experience, technical skills, awards/accomplishments, hobbies/interests
-dont write in sentences or paragraphs it makes you look stupid
-dont keep just one general resume, make it specific for each employer

Get a life? How the hell do you fly a life?
