vent tube from Raja's Spectra - hope he doesn't mind me volunteering the photo, I think it's a good example of a vent line.

Thanks, had noticed his vent line..and a second opinion welcomed

ESS base parts installed and fan/hub bck on.. reckon it's a pure lottery.. got about 1 thou on the cutch poles this time.. 'cos I didn't try....just sorta chucked it together and measured it afterwards...

Now I'm almost back to where I was yesterday

Wow good news there, I must have installed and taken out my clutch at least 5 times, and still couldn't get better than .0015"
I'm going the easy route and just pulling the plug out and then the shroud. I wonder if canopy sissors will cut it, hopefully..

Have you found the snag to that idea yet?

(and I plan on cutting with a dremel disc)

edit - done!

I'm working on my gasser-building quotes:

"gasser-building - Are you man enough?"
"gasser-building - Are you mad enough?"
"gasser-building - Bring our the Beast in you!"
"gasser-builders - Off the Scolville scale?"

Need to work on the punchiness for the Bumper Sickers market

"Gasser Builders - True grit and a sanding drum!"
"Gasser Building - Ya gotta laugh!"
"GB's - Do it by numbers when they don't add up!"

"...fun.,fun fun 'til his daddy took the Preddie away.."

I'm having a great time - got to the hysterical laughter now..

Really guys....

It shouldn't be so bad at all -- I really enjoyed building my Spectra-g, you guys make it sound like a nightmare...

Your right, I should be enjoying this, but truthfully I like to fly and don't much enjoy the build process. I don't mind thinking up new ways to do something but I'd rather be done and do some flying. Heck I've still got a P40 top flight I still haven't put together that I've had in the box for 10 years.. hehe.
I'll try to relax and not worry too much about getting it done, but it sure would be nice if the parts went together a little better.

Help

Well this is what this forum is all about, if you get stuck somewhere alot of good people here to help out. Billme is a great Century source. Also Agrav was very good but I don't see him posting any more these days not sure if he took up another hobby or what? I'll also try to help, but my speciality is Minair models as I don't own the Predator though I have setup and flown them on my field to help other pilots with them.

Raja,

Ya gotta realise that i can't take it too seriously and like a maniacal swing from frustration to another laugh..but believe me I appreciate your advice.

You'ld have to see the pile'o'parts and manual to appreciate the humour of the Century folk..they sit in a pub every night, chuckling

OK..got the mainshaft in, gear mesh set, a bit of frame sanded off so it aligns uppper/lower halves clutch to bell, found the metal elevator arm and then dogged and locktighted the upper frame screws..now gotta mate the two together with all the spacer parts - except that I'm working a late shift..

Profwiz,- watch out for the brass lower spacer under main gear and the washer under the top mainshaft thrust bearing - at least i think that's where they go

"Gasser Builder flies into a Bar - another £200 in parts!"

I got lucky..late shift but not night shift..so the ESS does most of the alignment...was short a screw or two so had to fettle a couple..and really just a plod of spacers, checks then threadlocking and almost used up my mix of blue raptor and silver trex washers (the black ones are boring).. could be on to flat washers tomorrow..

The stack spacers would be a fiddle where doubled but I discovered that aligning them on a long screw with drop of CA holds them for placing much easier.

That leaves me with the other frame screws to be pulled, washered and threadlocked.. then I suppose I'd better put the servos in -deliberately left because I like stuff in my order and I can think about wiring routes in one hit without getting tangled up.

Test pulling the start cord.. I can hold the bell with modest one-thumb pressure..I assume that's OK on a new liner?

I've been saving up to buy a Predator Condor. This thread has made me really nervous.

I don't have a problem with building and whatnot, but I don't own any of the tools it looks like you guys are using to test 'runouts' and such.

Guess I'll find out what I need as I go along.

Thanks,
David

The tools to test runout aren't all that bad, probably under $40 from J&L if you get a standard 0-1 indicator and cheap magnetic base. I'll shoot you the part #'s after I look them up with a link to where you can buy them online.
I've heard they fly well, just find someone that's built one already and talk their ear off!

I was nervous, too and also had to buy the indictor for this build - suprisingly cheap.

Looks like a good investment is a couple of pairs of haemostats - one straight and one curved - some awkard corners and clumsy fingers.

And for the really hard bits a Birmingham Screwdriver

I use the runout indicator on any clutch I install, even the Raptor! It does make a difference to have it as close as possible. This is a great tool for many other uses also - e.g. check the brakes on your car for a warp.

Time to write something positive about this bird.

The futaba servos fit like it was designed around them.. tight to a ciggie paper. The main link diameters match the holes on large futaba wheels and at mid-pitch there's a perfect horizontal and holes at the right angles. The offset of the elevator lever will mean one hole drilling but the wheels even have a line to follow.

Compared to the 'try-all-these-horns' approach of my trex 450 and 600 and then having to play with tx adjustment... this is looking cool.

It'll be interesting to see how close Century are with their recommended link lengths...
