From a design perspective:

Scrap the spacers for the landing gear struts, since your designing from scratch make the landing gear the right height !

A belt drive is shown, will the design permit a conversion/option for shaft drive ?

Again, if your starting a fresh design, why not scrap the hexagonal boom (I know it's a 'trademark', but maybe if the right diameter is selected we could forsee some level of part interchangeability betweeen brands. Yes this is a both an opportunity and a risk, but if you make the better boom ...

From an esthetic point of view the sub frames arrangement for the tank seems un-tidy and overly 'complex'.

Only one name : Hirobo Jetstream

(The wind that swepts the US ...)

Lastly, get the guy that designed the canopy needs some vacations !

When I was at the Hirobo event at the Weak Signals field, I spoke with the Hirobo rep from Japan. One of the questions I asked him was how to pronounce Sceadu, he said Sk-uh-dy, and that it was the name of a God. So I asked the Internet and sure enough There is a Norse God, Skadi, or in Old English equivalent, Sceadu. Sceadu is a Giantess and the Goddess of Winter, darkness and death. But more importantly she is the Stepmother of the God Freya. Freya is the Goddess of Fertility.
If Hirobo meant to choose Freya as the name because it is built after the sceaudu, then to follow suit. The daughters of Freya were Hnoss and Gersemi, both were known for their beauty, and Gersemi name means 'riches' or 'treasure' or in a more modern English term 'Bling'. Kind of fitting.

The canopy is ok, but try this
angle the canopy about 7-8 degrees so the nose is almost at the height of the tail boom, then it would look good.

Good try, but it still looks like a Sceadu with a tank sticking out ready to fall out !

Also, I don't know if it's the size of the vertical fin, but it makes it looks like the boom is too short.

The canopy looks like it's off a 400 size heli!

Hirobo's canopies have never screamed '3D' to me. I.e. the Freya canopy is rather bloated. Sleek & compact is what you want, like the Aurora, Synergy etc.

Looks do sell after all! I know a lot of people who didn't want Hirobo helis cos their canopies are ugly.

new chopper.............YEAH BABY......

I love this, being in on the ground floor with a new chopper, trust me as a former employee of MRC/Hirobo they are listening to all of your input, I agree on the canopy, something a little more stream lined and aggressive looking would suit this machine. also as for the name if Hirobo is reaching for the top of the 3D chopper market I think this one
will do it, so why not call it the Hirobo Pinnacle 90. some other names

Fantasy

Keep the octagonal boom. It's inexpensive, VERY stiff, and it's easy to key all mounted components to it without needing to mill slots or holes in the boom to key into other tabs or grooves in other components.

One other thing:

It is the nature of a 3D model that it may be expected to be crashed a bit more often than an FAI model, esp when flown hard by pilots on a upwind learning curve. Currently there are several 3D models out there which have design features/parts that while they are themselves quite inexpensive, they are tied and mounted to other very costly main frame components such that when even a minor crash occurs, it causes major damage. Front radio tray parts and canopy standoffs, etc. should be positioned so as not to needlessly ruin core main frame components in modest encounters with terra firma.

I'll let the more artistically inclined commentson the canopy; the current Freya canopy is a tough act to follow aesthetically speaking.

I have to agree with Dr. Ben. The hex boom is smart from an engineering standpoint.

Is it really a one sided frame design? Tell us more.

Here's my modifications

Reverse the landing gear, streamline the carbon tail fin and re-engineer the canopy.

Here's my attempt with photoshop compared to the original.

I have to agree...

Hirobo makes a nice machine and I'm sure this will be no exception.
BUT...... ya gotta be kidding with that lid!!! It looks like it should be hanging off something from the 70's. I mean, somewhere, Dieter Schluter is saying "now that woulda looked nice on a Heli-Boy".
That canopy would cost them a lot of sales.
Hey - just a thought - how about Hirobo buying any canopies and the molds from Avant and then simply call the new machine the Aurora!!!
We all know they're not gonna need the name for a while!!

Leif,

that canopy looks like a la Sylphide without the muffler containment. The lines should be horizontal as in your example and not slanting down making the canopy look as if it's about to fall off.

Yes, I actually like the Octagonal boom (maybe not in carbon), but it's a very strong boom and takes the guess work out of alignment.

Hirobo might want to use the break off canopy mounting tabs first seen in the Aurora and now seen on the Vibe 50.

I'm sure we'll be seeing this machine at the 3D Masters with Dominik flying it.

As an official "Factory Hirobo Twisted Tail Boom" owner, the octagonal boom can actually hurt alignment....

It also makes a good riot police baton, baseball bat, tent stake, and crowbar, the thing is so freaking heavy duty (and heavy).

Yeah, Leif, I agree, that's a sweet looking canopy.

I'm enough of a Hirobo nut that I'd buy it even with their rendition of a canopy. I hope a Freya canopy fits though.
