e-Gaui Hurricane 200 & 550 - EP100 > Hurricane 550 Longest Flight Time for a 550, and what is your setup?

Thanks guys.

I will be running a Spektrum AR7000 receiver and I guess a Castle Creations BEC. What would my servo voltage be 4.8 or 6v ?

Also, for the cyclic servos, isn't there something good (digital w/metal gears) inbetween the $30.00 DS821's and the 80.00 9452's ?

I'd prefer to use JR though so I dont have to trim the connectors.

For the type of flying I'm doing now (hovering/normal flight), don't think I'll have the headspeed at 2200RPM. Ask me next summer and my answer might be different.

Does anyone know when readyheli is going to get their new shipment of H550 XES PRO SE kits in?

I had a little crash with my (platic head) mini-Titan today. Low to the ground so I only busted a blade, flybar and training gear. I'm afraid if it was a metal head, I would have bent something and I'd have an expensive repair.

Now I'm thinking maybe I SHOULD get the CF frame/plastic head or ALL PLASTIC version???

Any more advice???

If I had to purchase the Hurricane all over again... I would get the basic plastic kit, get a z20-980, a cc85hv. And after mastering the sky and smashing up the plastic frame get the CHP's Carbon frame upgrade as it includes everything you need to go carbon, not to mention it includes new bearing with the upgrade. OR keep it the way it is as its a great trainer to smash around. At $29 for a crash kit beats repair cost of any 450+ size heli.

Thanks VicRC.

I am seriously thinking about getting the all plastic kit since I'm still learning and only plan to run the z20-980 motor anyway.

Is it really necessary to get the CC85HV or will the CC Phoenix 60 or 80 do the job just as well?

I have a little while to think about it as it's 2-3 weeks until readyheli is supposed to get new stock of the metal head kit.

Also, where do you find the $29.00 crash kit?

I have plastic frame + head + z20A (still learning also) and I love it - all that I need. I use the Gaui 50 amp ESC no probs.

My stock (plastic) 550 with the z20A and two of the new "Outrage XP30" - 2200 mAh - 30C lipos, turning 2000 rpm, gets about 7 minutes and 45 seconds of hovering and FF. My Gaui 50 amp ESC gets warm, but no problems so far. If you're not going to push the limits, the plastic kit is fine.

Heliman Dave...

I don't think the regular cc esc's can take the 22v....that's why you need the HV model, but yoy way want to check...

I think they are more set up for 3s -4s.

A Phoenix 60/80 will do up to 6S. Above that you need the HV models. I have a CC HV85 and I had to mount it back on the left side because the canopy wouldn't clear it.

If your only running 6s the stock gaui 50A controller is just fine, I had over 100 flights z20 and z30 on it. I am using CC85HV now because I also run 8sA123 pack.

Actually, if you run 8s A123s, the stock ESC works fine. This is my current setup since day one and everything runs perfectly.

Vic, how did you like the Z30 in there? Did the canopy fit over it? I'm thinking of possibly running this setup.

I ran the 8sA123 on the stock ESC also, I don't recommend it but it works. I had to cut a hole on top of the canopy, its fine as it helps with the cooling. The Z30 (14T pinion) has lots of power with 8sA123 2600 rpm and no bog at all, however it only ran max 3-3.5 min. 5-6min on 6s 3300 lipo.

I also ran the Scorpion 1000kv 13T pinion and its power falls between the Z20 and Z30. Scorp too hot to run! May save it as spare for my Trex 500

Currently back on the Z30, with 50T front gear and 14T pinion for really low head speed and runs very cool, I lowered the hs to put some woodies for invert flying and need more air time than pop. Darn helis! Once you think you know how to fly, try something new and your back to square 1.

Vic, do you know what headspeed you're running now and how much flight time? My flight style leans towards more flight time and less 3d so it sounds like your combination might be a winner for me. Also, do you have a picture of how large a hole you cut? I'm curious what it looks like. And where do you get the 50 tooth gears? Thanks.

With the z30, 14t pinion, 50T front gear. 20 OWB and 61T main gear, 8sA123 get around 5 minutes of mild flying with 2100HS 500mm woodies throttle curve at 95 percent. With 6s 3300 I set my timer at 7 minutes at 100 percent throttle and get 2000 hs,. I can really let the hurry loose by replacing the 50T to 42T stock but carbon blades a must at 2600hs. Will try and take pic of it.

The Z20-980kv will give you the same tame setup and even more flight time. If your just planning on using the hurry as a trainer nothing beats the z20 for cool running and easy on the lipos. You can do tic-tocs with the z20 just a bit slower.

WOOT! Today I finally made my first fast forward inverted flights.

Thanks guys.

I'm thinking the CC Phoenix 60 would be just fine for the z20-980 motor.

My problem now is I've been swayed from buying the Hurricane 550 to buying a Thunder Tiger E550 Raptor. I was told that if I wanted a heli that flew great out of the box without a bunch of "tweaking/tuning" then I'd be better off with the a Raptor.

Can you guys tell me how much tweaking and/or tuning it took to get your H550 off the ground and flying well?

I'm a little partial to Thunder Tiger since I have the E325 mini-Titan.

I just bought my second 550 (first one still going strong, but I love my Hurri and wanted a back-up as I am about to start new exercises). The only changes that I made from standard is the CNC elevator, pitch and aileron arms - about $40 worth.

Mike, Thats a smart move! one set of parts! Having two different heli makes it hard on the wallet for all the spares you care to have.

Could I fly the 550se with 2 x 2200mAh and z20a for 6-7 min? as you know the metal head is much heavier than the plastic

I wouldn't go more than 5 minutes as you will kill the pack.
