e-Gaui Hurricane 200 & 550 - EP100 > Hurricane 550 Longest Flight Time for a 550, and what is your setup?

I have been getting marginal flight times with my twin TP 2100s, and I am wondering if anyone out there has been able to get 15 minutes or more of flight time. And if so, kindly share your setup, as I would like to learn what I can do to get longer airtime. Thanks!

Hello, Peter. What's happening? We need to talk about your TPS reports

get the z20 motor... gear it real low for around 1700 rpm, then get some 3500mah packs and your probably get 12-13min of basic flying

yes you must run either 2 3cell battieres in a series or one 6 cell... you gotta have 22.2 volts, but the 6 cell wont fit unless you get the cf frames

I recently dropped my HS to 1800 using the Z20-980 14t pinion, 20tOWB, on stock gears 42/62 and got and easy 12 min of lazy flying, 8's, circles, hovers, etc. it was nice to not be screaming around at a 100 miles and hour in UI and I was able to fly in a smaller area than usual. I was using 3300 20c Zippy packs and took out 2650 mAh.

I am going to try this with my 2200's and see what I can get i would imagine about 8 mins..or more.

I just purchased two, Outrage XP30's - 11.1v 2200mAh - 30C packs and with my Z20A-980, turning approximately 1800 rpm, it will be interesting to see what flight times I get with my stock Hurri (no 3D). These packs are just slightly heavier (12grams each) than the TP-2200-25C Extreme's that I currently get 6 to 8 minutes on with a 14t pinion. Gonna fly the Outrage packs tomorrow, weather permitting, and see what 5C difference makes.

I thought I'd add in my setup since I would have liked to have known this information before I tried it so I hope it helps someone.

I'm running the stock motor 850kv with 8s A123s at 1740rpm headspeed. 11 minutes of flight which includes circuits, loops, and rolls. No 3D but I'm not attracted to that kind of flight anyway.

michael88997,

Are you sure 6s packs won't fit in the plastic frame? Can you explain further?

I'm getting ready to purchase the H550 and I'm not sure which version I want (but was now leaning towards the plastic frame/metal head).

I only have 3s packs now but would like the option of using 6s packs in the future.

Thanks.

i believe the 6 cell pack is too tall and the canopie wont fit over it... on the plastic version you put a 3cell pack on top and 3 cell pack on bottom of a plastic piece, but if all 6 cells are on top the canopie doesnt go over it... but i havent tried it so there might be a way to do so.. if not you have to get the cf frames

We would love to run a single 6s pack too if we could. But, it just does not fit.

I was hoping for a better arrangement on the CF but it is almost the same. However, you can slide one pack under the main gear. But, can't slide past the boom support pem nut in the back.

We are still working on equipment placement so nothing is final on CF.

I also have the plastic frame in which you can only mount a pack on top and bottom of the forward frame, I have not bought any batteries yet because I would really like to buy some A123's and go that route.

Thanks michael and red_z,

It looks like the stock CF frame is about the same physically as the plastic frame. The new one that readyheli has looks nice and is beefier (2mm thick) so I think I will get the plastic frame/metal head combo now and when I eventually need a new frame I'll upgrade with readyheli's new CF version.

If I get the GAUI metal head does that mean I don't need to buy any upgrades like mixing arms? A few have told me to upgrade some head parts if I get the plastic head.

Also, I need some recommendations for:

Swash/cyclic servos- ? I want JR digital since I'm using a DX7 and I'd like ball bearings and metal gears.

Gyro/tail servo- ? (was going to use Futaba 401 & 9257)

Blades- ? wood and/or fiberglass and/or CF

i think the only upgrades needed is if your going to fly at 2200rpm get cnc grips and thrusted tail because it might lock up... you could get 9452s if you want to spend that much... i use ds821s on 6volts and their pretty fast...

i used 401/9254 and it was great but i recently upgraded to a jr 7703d + 8900g because i got a good deal

blades if your just hovering and ff you can get woodies but if your doing mild 3d or more i would get carbon fibers... the only ones i have used are rcp 500mm but i like these(but im hoping 500mm radix come out some time lol)

Im also using the DS821 servos. They can be had for a song if you hunt around some. All kinds of good gyros out there too. The Gy401 is a great gyro but is getting behind techno wise. I have it and the 2100T on helis.

what does "thrusted tail" mean? is this an upgrade?

"Thrusted tail" has thrust bearings. Normal tail has two radial bearing where the load is for a torsional load like the wheel bearing of a car. The thrust bearing is a set of rollers beteen two washers and take the load of the blades trying to fling themselves outward from the center. It helps the keep the roller bearings from locking up. See link below to Boca bearing.
