One more. Its a bit darker pink than it looks in the pics.
My next one I will send the paint I want over with my order, that way its the exact shade I want. Not their fault, its what they had short of ordering paint from OS for 1 job, so we agreed to just give it a go lol.

Hi Gorn,

Canopy looks really good. Is the painting also from Realheli?

Thanks guys
Yeah the idea is for high visibility. I used to have a Canomod Trex450 canopy in the same scheme, and you couldnt lose sight of that lil sucker

Yep the paintwork is done by Realheli, good pricing too.

Gorn, I see you have to make the holes for attaching the canopy yourself? Don't you damage the paint when cutting and drilling in the canopy?

Nope. When drilling you should always start with a very small "pilot" hole and work your way up to the size you need.
Going slow means the paint generally wont chip off.
When cutting larger sections out of the canopy, draw a cut line with a lead pencil, go over that line with a hobby knife, dremel away. The paint wont chip off because you have already cut through it.
I have had good success using the little drum sander attatchments as well, but without doin a line, just freehand. Go very slow and all should be well if the paint was applied properly.
Next time I order a painted canopy, I will get them to drill the mounting holes, and the outline for access to the primer bulb on the carb. Just to save time.

Wow, Gorn that color scheme is awesome but it would be better in flurescent pink, much more beautiful and visible.

Another way to avoid chipping the paint when drilling is to run the drill in reverse. This is after drilling the small pilot hole that Gorn suggests.

Hi Shiro
I agree, but Realheli did not have the shade of paint. Said they would have to buy in House of Kolor paint specially for it.
I didnt bother to ask how much extra that would be lol. HOK paint is one of the best in the world.
However next time i think I will get 2 or 3 canopies and fin sets done all at once. then I will get fluoro pink done for sure.

Regarding the fin sets, why don't you get the carbon fin sets? they are not that expensive.

Shiro
I havent even priced them actually. For now the G10 is fine.
Im all about high visibility at the moment, and black carbon blends in with everything lol.
However I will say this, the carbon does look much better.
Right now its just another more expensive thing to break as I move into basic 3d with this heli.

Actually the carbon fins from Realheli were cheaper than other brands. After the G10 fin broke during transport (much to flimsy) I directly ordered the carbon fins (together with crash kit parts ). They are much better than the original ones.

Here are some new pics. As you can see the canopy is now mounted and trimmed, new Zimmerman header with my Hanson muffler, and a velocity stack.
The V stack is only plastic as I could not find one locally, and I have an event to go to in 1 week, so the rush was on
I did not weigh the stack, but I did weigh the DDM filter and choke assembly. 155g!! Sheesh!
So Ive saved probably 140g there, the new carbon baseplate saved 80g, so thats 220g. Id say thats a good result so far
When I get a Dynatron starter I will do away with the pullstart too. I know I know, less convenience, but also another 110g less.
So that would be 330g saved right there.
I'll take any saving I can get lol.
Let me know what you guys think of how she looks now.
Just have to fit the GV1 and my new Dualsky VR-8L 8amp reg, and then she's done for now.
Looking at flybarless with a CSM Cyclock system later
Cheers

Thats awesome Gorn! Much more better than your previous header. Velocity from RealHeli is very light also and it is CNC Machined.
