Would you believe I fly with the guy who also built the G Jive you are building. He has just put a turbine in it, and it looks fantastic. I will try and get some pics for you.

To keep you going, here are some pics of my Hughes 500 taken the other night.

to Red machine,

Thats Awesome, i have been trying to get a hold of him for a very long time, yes if you can send me more pictures, that would be great! I have about 50 photos of his helicopter, and every one of the full size helicopter, i really like the paint job on the G jive it has that paint peeling off affect, or it looks like some giant claw came down and riped away the metal great 3 D effect thats why i like it so much . More picture would be greatly apreciated so i can give them to the builder. I also like your paint job on your 500 hughes that is a sweet paint job! thanks.

Thanks Jim, a great compliment. I talk to the owner of the mini G-Jive every week as he is building a large Vario Turbine Lama for me. The real G-Jive is owned by a consortium around 20 miles from me. His model is a work of art and certainly very impressive when you see it close up. I will ask him what info he has and let you know. If you don't hear from me for a week or so, drop me a PM to remind me.

G Jive Paint Job

Hey Guys just getting started on a .30 size Century 500E model for my HDX500 and I'm still deciding on the paint job. My question is how do you paint the J Give paint job? I thought there was an older post on someone explaining how they did it - but I really think the tearing away paint job is awesome - and that compliment is aimed at you guys above Very Nice Birds! Any help or guidance is appreciated!
Thanks!

G jive paint job

The way it will be done to my helicopter is i take the real picture of the G Jive both sides of it. Go to a photo machine and blow it up to the size required to fit the J give scale size you have. Cut out the silver part, after you have primed, the helicopter then paint the whole helicopter silver, then place the templates, you have cut out on to the body go ahead and paint the helicopter blue, being careful not to over spray close to the templates edges because you don’t want bleeding to occur which that can be fixed if you get it in certain places. After it drys remove the templates you know have a very close replica of the original paint job and then to add the 3D affect, if you want to. look at the picture i added in my post up close you can see exactly wear the small black brushed lines are on the edges of the silver meeting up to the blue. Place those black brush lines in the correct places and the 3 D effect will happed. The reason why i like this paint job myself is because i want something that looks real hard to paint and stands out. It must be an eye grabber and this paint job does it all!

PS there is another way of doing it and i have seen it done with lots of cups of coffee you tape it off inch by inch looking at the original photos. But i like to work smarter not harder unless you enjoy doing that kind of detail straining your eyes.

I fly with the guy who owns and built the Vario G-Jive and it really is that good close up. He is currently putting a JetCat turbine in it so should be back in the air in a few weeks.

I also offered to help with the images, but if you can, that would be great as I will need to get them off G-Jive's owner.

Mike Pattison is the owner of the one in the UK , the helicopter was built by Mike, but he had a company paint it for him . I can not remember the company's name but it's in the UK they do really nice work. when i get done with mine i am not going to take any short cuts my goal is to duplicate the one in the UK. It has impressed me that much!

James, Good luck with your G-Jive project. The paint job is going to be the hard part of this project as you know. I did mine with a little twist in the colors but essentially the same paint scheme.. I would suggest rather than using a template try liquid masking and a little freehand painting with it and the results will be suprisingly simple....

Tom..... No "D" flying....

G-JIVE, Mike Pattison

James, as I understood it Mike painted G-JIVE himself, using aerocell auto paints, you really have to be up close to G-JIVE to appreciate the work, I am hopeing to go to the Vario Northern meet this weekend so may see G-Jive with its new turbine

Peter is correct, Mike did paint the model himself and what a job he did!

Sadly he still hasn't had time to finish the turbine conversion so won't be flying it at the weekend.
