Boil in a pot of anti-freeze. The pot should not be metal.

Actually a crock pot on low setting and soaked over night with the cheapest, green, junk antifreeze you can find, works best

Antifreeze engine cleaning

hollycopter,
If you choose to use the antifreeze cleaning method.
Please do it in a WELL VENTILATED area.
The heated antifreeze will give off hazardous fumes.

The best time to do it is when the wife is out of town, unless you have a death wish.

No need to boil, just leave overnight. Boiling is not healthy.

Cleaning dirty motor's

I strip down the motor completely and then submerge it in the antifreeze and I have a crook pot that I bought at the flea market for 10 bucks. I use this only all the time.

It is the best cleaning you will ever get, just put it on high for 24 hours and take a look after, you will be amazed.

cleaning nitro engines to remove the castor oil staining
Has anyone tried Isopropyl rubbing alcohol? It worked great for me when cleaning an old airplane engine internally when all gunked up with thick gooey castor oil. It cut right through.

Otherwise, believe it or not, a tooth paste and a tooth brush does wonders. I've gotten engines sparkling with toothpaste and a tooth brush.

Please do not use the crock pot and antifreeze on high. Test with an old engine first. Generally low is all you need and don't leave it in too long. (over 6 to 8 hrs) If you do you can significantly darken the aluminum (ask me how I know :-)

I use brake cleaner from my shop. Wipe it out. There you go!
All dry and the ether eats up the oil. Five minute job!
Light smooth scotch brite to shine the parts up! Reassemble!

I've always used old fuel and put the motor parts in a bucket of it on top of a fish tank air thing. The air thing vibrates the bucket and seems to do a very nice job getting rid of everything. Then I spray clean with nitroclean and put back together with kloz oil.

You know you have to many heli's only when your wallet is empty.

EZ Off oven cleaner works well. Just warm the motor up a little in the oven (works for getting bearings out easily, just don't drop on the vinyl floor) and spray down with EZ Off.

The crockpot, set on low using the green anti-freeze. It must be propylene glycol, not the other stuff. Do this outside as the fumes are something to respect. It will amaze you how well it works. Let the parts soak overnight. Did I mention you will be amazed at the results?

The last one I did was in an ultrasonic tank with green antifreeze. Looked brand new!
