Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > Stripped main gear on the raven.....So time for some auto practice

All the auto's were done with the same gear. Every bad landing would take out a few teeth every time. By the end of it all half of the teeth were missing.....So when half were gone I called it quites! I wanted to see how much abuse the raven could take
Oh..and yes the tail has the metal gears. Makes the main gear the fuse.

i haven't done autos off grass before. it looks like you have to pull foward alot to the point were the heli isn't moving back on touch down or the gear catches the grass.

The CTD (Constant Drive Tail) system for autos is more for doing backwards flight and other 3D maneuvers during and auto. As one will require the tail rotor to be powered during these maneuvers. But powering the tail rotor does rob power from the rotor during the auto and also results in damage to the crown gear if one touches the tail during a harder then desired landing.

For practicing autos, you may wish to install the standard auto system from the Hawk into the center of the main gear.

This will result in more energy left in the rotor at the bottom, and as the tail rotor will not be driven, now stripping of the crown gears.

Not on a Raven, but there are a couple of autos (my first attempts!) in this video of my Swift. It has an un-driven tail like the stock Hawk.

Ravenhyper50, after watching your vid again i noticed few things that will help alot. I have a 1.5 gallons through my new raven and have done a couple autos. When I auto I come in at angle backwards like you are doing but ALWAYS pull foward enough that the heli has ZERO backwards motion. You will find that you will get alot of blade speedup from this. Enough to easily touch down for a soft landing. So the only adjustments you need to make are pulling foward enough to completely stop the heli. When i discovered this autos became so much easier.
