There is no clutch problem, the big clutch works fantastic... The auto clutch was the problem.
Its a whole new machine as for as I'm concern.....It was very hard for me to find because some did ok, and some didn't...those that did ok, was just ok smooth, but not transferring all the power...
This mod takes care of it ...Much much easier for a smooth machine, and power transfer makes the machine feel light, and more locked in...
So far its doing fantastic...
Do it, its a cheap, and easy fix..
Just do this mod for now, it will get you excited enough you'll want to do the rest

I'll tell you as a new Pred. owner and new to gassers putting the O-rings in and putting the glue in the inner sleeve was very easy and cost is something like $10 I think for the 5 O-rings? Worth it.

EDIT: They're $1.37 ea. @ RHPS

It may take a couple of flights for it to work in, but I got to tell ya, mine just gets better...I'm not using any lube on the hub...

It's the most effective fix I have ever found for the price of the fix..
kinda blows me away..

In referance to the autohub mod I see mention of RHPS is this a hobby shop? What is the link to the website? The o-rings go on both sides of the hub so the bearing gets removed orings added bearing back in place then oring on bottom correct? Im still not getting how all this gets assembled.

RHPS is Ron's Heliproz South. I got my o-rings in record time when I ordered them. jschenck has a video available that shows how to install the orings that is very good. It sounds way harder than it is....

Cheers,

Paul

This is a first attempt at any video's and certainly is not spectacular but I hope it helps get the general idea

First things first

GOOD to meet you!

In the Minair heli use of these delrin o-rings, they are usually surrounded by thin metal washers. Not sure if you can apply the same technique here, but just thought I'd mention it since you're looking to do the same as Minair does it.

Also, you should pack the sprag bearing with oil before you assemble it. If you put the mainshaft half way through you can drip oil on the sprag gear and rotate it around and around applying more oil until its full. Excess oil will eventually leak out, but its good to fill it at the time of assembly.

Lastly, you should try to rotate the parts together to get them to insert inside the gear. It may be a better idea than tapping it back in, I always rotate mine around to get it in and out.

Yep, I "met" you on the 'how to start a gasser' video - inspired me to point a camera at my disaster of a bench.

Anyhow I do twist the assembly to get the inner sleeve in and out of the assembly but I don't see anyway to take the brass bearing or spraq bearing out of the assembly without lightly tapping them or using a make-shift press with sockets and a bolt (thanks Ace, good tip). The pressure I needed to get the spraq and brass out was pretty low so I don't think there was any chance for damage with taking it apart or reassembling it using a light tapping.

I saw you do that but it worries me some. If the sprag is that easy to get out than it will slip when the engine applies massive torque. I would be inclined to use loctite on that sprag if you can tap it out with a screwdriver handle. Maybe I am not seeing this correctly.

Edit:
BTW I did a lot of video work for instructional purposes for building cardboard airplanes. You have to get really close for the viewer to see what you are doing. I ended up turning the sound off or not speaking and just taking video and then go back and dub in the narration. For a 5 minute video you roll at least 10 minutes of tape then cut and edit. But the real key is get in close. If we see who you are at first we don't need to be looking at you the whole time.

Tips if you want to use them ... that's all.

Ace

I'm note sure how you could loctite the spraq as it's bathed in oil, unless I'm not referencing the parts correctly. The spraq bearing is the caged one-way assembly of angled "fingers" that grab the inner and outer sleeve when twisted one way then let go the other direction. Tapping this out is more related to getting the oilite brass bearing at the bottom of the assembly out as the actual one-way is not in there tight (as I remember, it's been many months since I did this now).

Anyhow 4 gallons of flying after doing this and the one-way gave me no trouble. Those flights included tic-tocs, lots of autos and other maneuvers that are hard on the main gear assembly. The drive train ran perfect right up to the point of impact.

video points taken, I did notice the same. I could have probably made it better even with what I had but I put out what I had in the interest of time.

Its best to do it like i said...i have the rubber orings coming to test them myself..
Garrett Oku my friend, and fellow test pilot said they worked good, and much easier to put in, I trust his word..I'm going to do it now, to see if there is a difference between the two...

Thanks for sharing the video, it really cleared a few questions I had up! No matter how adequate your video skills were, you got the point across, good job!

And thank you Bill for sharing the mod!

Pretend you're smart: use quotes.
