Hey guys,

Curious what the thought is on the Blade 400 as a heli for someone totally new to the hobby? Would it be a decent model to learn on after some sim time?

I have a buddy who wants to get one to learn on, but thought he might do better with a nitro/bigger bird. Would appreciate any feedback I can pass along to him.

Cheers

Blade 400 is the #1 perfect heli to learn on IMO. I did it You can make it stable enough for a beginner, yet agile enough to increase when his skill increases also. Its cheap to fix too The box says for intermediate to advanced pilots, which is a total lie. Its made for dead start beginners to intermediate pilots. I've been flying for a month and am already pushing its limits. I was doing inverted pirouettes to tail slides with it yesterday (but I had my gain too high and it got a little out of control :P ) I completely smashed it from 60' up and its only a $30 fix. I would recommend a few upgrades on it to make it what it can really be. Align blades work well with it.

Wheels are for wienies!

I recommend a Blade 400 + Phoenix Sim. You can use the DX6i with Phoenix which is a plus.
Good luck and welcome to the addiction.

I've been flying planes for close to a decade and decided to jump into helis when I saw the Blade 400 was coming out. Other than a few months of trying to learn on a century hummingbird, the Blade has been my first "real" heli. I was able to hover it first time out, and the few pilots at my local field who have seen it are impressed with its stability. IMHO, you can't beat this heli on the bang for buck ratio. Sure, a nitro ship will be more stable and docile, but it will cost more in acquisition and maintenance/repair. Plus, there's the intimidation factor with a larger machine. I say go for the Blade and a sim--it's working for me!

I have the Blade 400 and PhoenixRC sim. Loving them both so far! The helicopter hovers great right out of the box

My only gripe so far is that some of the parts are becoming difficult to find and I'm hearing some are delayed until June.

Alot of the parts issue is (and I am not bashing as I am one myself)from the people that get a b400 and are teaching themselves with minimal or no use of a sim. I have realflight but for me it jsut doesn't have the same feel... I have tought myself to hover and some simple forward flight. I am by no means putting down using the sim, for most people sims are great mine just feels like a video game to me.... maybe once my skills are up a bit I will find a way to better utilize the sim. As for the B400 being a good starter, if you have the money get it. I get chastised for not recommending something like a coax first but anybody truly interested in flying helis would get bored with a coax in a matter of months.

Flying heli's is kind of like sex... you don't have to be good at it to enjoy it. Arti

Wow, I'm going to make a day of reminding some of you to READ THE EXISTING POSTS!!!! You'll get better answers. The people who are in the know are sick of answering the same frickin thing every second day!!

For those of you who are wondering if I have nothing better to do. NO. I opened the front door to see 3 feet of snow drifted onto it. So I closed it and got back into my pajama's.

with 2 ears and 1 mouth you should listen twice as much as you talk
