the whole tail seperated from the boom the other day, it was just getting light on the skids, so no damage to anything except the boom, my question is, after a lenghty tube extracting session, i removed the two set screws from the shaft end piece, and it won't come off without damage, do i have to cut the end off and dig out the remaining piece of shaft and then also cut the same lenghth, looks like about 1 inch off the new boom, or is there a magical way to insert the tube into a boom while keeping the bearings in place? thank you for any wisdom you could throw my way

Hi spank61! it sounds like you have an older style tube. the newer tubes have a pressed collar holding the end in. as far as removing the tube and bearing, the bearing is held i place by being glued to the torque tube and has rubber orings on the outside aginst the tail boom. you should be able to just pull the whole assembly out of the undamaged end of the tail boom. if the orings are stuck then you could try warming the tail boom gently with a heat gun near the bearing block which should be near the center of the boom. you should be able to just push it through. if the glue breaks loose from the tube the end will come to rest on the bearing block and then you can still pull it out. you really dont want to cut anything off as this will change your main to tail blade clearance. what machine are you flying? Did the boom slide out of the dogbones or did the tail box slide out? Tom
