Flybarless Rotor Head Systems > Flybar with Flybarless system question

If I've got a flybar system, and I wanted to smooth things out a little reducing having to 'fly a hover', would adding a system like Helicommand Rigid help?

I'm flying a 35 lb. bird and don't want to work as hard .

Why not just go flybarless? I can't go flybarless yet until the hardware (head) is available. In the meantime, I want to smooth things out with what I've got, a flybar system.

Thank you

Dakine,

I originally tested my Helicommand Rigid on a flybar'd Trex600e in both horiz and Rigid mode.

Horiz mode really made hovering easy, it just wants to stay in one. You can play with the gain and sensitivities a bit to fly it around in horiz mode but it really just wants to try to fly slow and flat.

In rigid mode it feels a lot more like normal. Except in high winds (with gusts) is is super stable and seemed uneffected by wind gusts.

Since this flybar testing I have tried it on a Flybarless Trex600e and it works even better. More agility and lower power draw.

In your case you could fly it around in rigid mode and then flick the pilot switch to go into horiz mode when you are coming into a hover. This should ease your workload a bit and make landings a breeze.

Cheers,
Tom C

The HC rigid can be used with or without flybars. Its just a setting in the software. I'm not really sure the reason to use it in rigid mode when you still have a flybar. You have your Horizontal Hold gain on a slider on your TX so you can dial in the amount of stability (gain) you want at anytime. Turn the gain off and go fly like normal, adjust a little gain and fly with some extra stability, turn it way up and it wil fly around on a flat level plane. The amount of gain will determine how quick it snaps back to level when you let go of the sticks.

Hope that helps.

rerazor,

For sport flying, I found that, even with the flybar, the heli felt better in rigid mode than horiz mode at 0% gain. The heli tracked a bit more rock-solid, exp. in gusty winds imop.

Also, in horiz or position mode, your piro rate with the internal tail gyro is limited to 200 deg/sec or you could overload the stablisation sensors (artificial horizon). You do not have this restriction in rigid mode. Maybe this restriction does not apply when horiz and Pos mode gains are both set to 0%, I don't know, I never bothered to try it.

Cheers,
Tom C

Okay, I understand the concept now.

Rigid gain is adjustable in the software. When using the flybarless you have to set the rigid gain to just below when oscillations occurs.

I only use the HC units for AP work and don't use the internal gyro. I should really give the tail gyro a try but I guess the 401/9254 works for my application.

Your absolutely correct on not over riding the piro rate, very good point.
