Great product.

would be nice if a 9ch 2048 version would be available. The R9100 is for 2 packs and doesn't have the straight through/5.2v option ?

There are some photos floating around RR of a prototype AR9200 receiver with these same features.

I would still like to know how the back plate sensor works. A magnet must be placed in the connecting rod for it to be reliable, however most common(read not extremely expensive) magnetic materials have a operational temp of no more than 150C and a Curie temp of 300C. At the vibes on top of that and Im not sure how long a magnet would survive. Also are these receivers going to have external programming?

Spektrums going to make a killing on these and dominate the rest of the market for sure.

Finally, a well thought out Rx specifically for heli application. I've been stuffing AR9100's + VR5302 into my helis recently - this makes it all so simply without loosing any of the benefits.

I hope they make a killing with these.

The magnet is in the sensor. You don't have to do anything at all to the engine.

> however most common ... magnetic materials have a operational temp

We would not be testing engine tuning by touching the backplate if it was anywhere near 150 C. That's 302 F.

Were also touching the outside casing, which has a thermal resistance. That doesnt mean the temp of the crank isnt 150C.

Doesn't matter. There's no magnet on the crank, it's on the sensor which is mounted on the backplate which will not reach 150C.

One of the uses of that type sensor is automotive disk brake wheel speed sensors,Bosch has used that type for 20+ years
How hot do the brakes on a V8 Mercedes get?
They are also used as crank position sensors on engines(like 2.5 GM)
sticks right through the side of the block and triggers off a impulse wheel cast as part of the crankshaft

What your refering to is a "reluctor ring" which does not contain any magnet or material that generates a magnetic field. The sensor (which is typically less than 1mm from the reluctor ring) induces a magnetic field into the reluctor ring using an electromagnet. I believe the same is true for modern (and reliable) ABS sensors as well.

I could see the sensor working by detecting the position of the crank by inducing a magnetic field in the crank case and measuring a deviation in the field created by the crank or connecting rods permeability and change in geometry. However depending on the alloy of the steel used for the crank the permeability or susceptibility be could be rather low if it contains any nickle or chromium, which there is a good chance it does to prevent corrosion. Even so to detect it through the crank case I would think would require fairly strong field for its size in order to be reliable even with a good filter.

Topher,
It's been tested a ton in all the popular heli engines. Isn't that enough?

So is it possible to use normal (not 8.4V) servos with these receivers? Should I use a normal BEC that would drop the voltage to 5.8V and then connect it to the RX input?

thanks
