These look like they will be perfect for the 8v setups in the 600s and the up and coming 700. They will be able to handle 8vs and will have 5.2v 2amp regulators on the rudder and Aux 2 channels. The 7100R will have a rev limiting governor with it too.

This should be under the Spektrum forum.

How does the sensor mount to the engine or better yet where does it mount???? This is awesome. Finally a 8v setup DONE right!!!

I believe it mounts on the engine back plate.

What, it detects the crankshaft moving round?
Thats a new one, how did you figure that out?

I have a OS 91 SZ Pumped Hyper on my Synergy. It isn't going on my backplate. No place to put it.

Paul Beard spoke of the new receiver at the AMA expo in CA. a few months ago. The sensor for the govenor is a hall effect sensor that mounts on the backplate. No magnets. (Finally) He said it should be out this summer. It has two regulators built in. One for the tailrotor servo and one for the aux channel for the tail gain. You can run the rest of your system on 7.4

No one has said what it senses. It can't mount on the backplate as there are lots of pumped engines and that prevents that from happening. Spektrum is going to design a system that can't be used on one of the premier engines out there.

The YS91 SR is pumped. I would call it a premier engine and there is nothing covering the backplate besides the small pressure tap for crankcase pressure. I still see what you are saying. I'm sure they will come out with a solution if this is infact where it will mount. I'm not sure how accurate and consistent it will be compared to the magnet/sensor setups with every other governor/limiter on the market.

hell not only is it a regulated 5.2v to the rudder and aux2 channel you also have the option to run 8v OR 5.2v to the throttle and gear channel also. That's kind of sweet being able to choose 8v or 5.2v for the throttle/gear.

OK

so the only thing different from the 7100 to the 7100R is that the R has a rev limiter?? Is that all? Can the 7100 do everything the R can but no rev limiter? Right? there is a $60 difference between them and it would seem any one running a gov would only need the 7100 or to lose some weight go with the R just wondering.

The only difference is the erv limiter. That is all.

Yes, you have the option on a couple of channels. There are slots for the throttle and gear for unregulated and slots for the throttle and gear for a 5.2v output. Look at the thing. It is a 7 channel RX with about 13 slots I think it is. The worlds first pure helicopter RX. Awesome.

> No one has said what it senses.

It senses the crank pin on the crankshaft. For those with engines that have pump mechanics blocking the backplate, it may also sense the crankpin through the side of the crankcase.

What on earth??? The crankpin is usually steel, how on earth does it tell the difference between metals and also how could it measure rotations through the engine. I am not trying at all to be a smart-alek, it just almost sounds like science fiction type of technology.

Has anyone actually seen one on a heli???

Maybe the sensor itself is a magnet that will pick up the metal pin as it passes by...... who know's???? Be neat to see how it works.

Quick...here comes my wife....hide that new Heli !!!!

If you check the thread I referenced above a few posts you can see prototypes on helicopters but they don't show pics of the sensor.

Not science fiction at all. There are sensors specifically designed for tasks just like this. They are used in tasks such as wheel speed sensors for anti-lock braking systems. It just took the governor companies a while to find them.

What servos are compatible?

Last I read, Horizon does not support the use of unregulated 2s lipos for any servo.
