I am using a OS 50 Hyper on my Pantera and was using 15% nitro. I purchased 5 gallons of 30% and switched over. I did richen the mixture but not enough, I had plenty of smoke until I heard a pot and the engine quit. Luckily I was close to the ground and did no damage to the heli. I pulled the head and saw a hole in the top of the piston. I have a new engine coming Tuesday and planning to send my engine to Hobby Services for repairs.

Glad you saved the helicopter. Sadly the holed piston is a common occurance. Did you scuff the cylinder too or did it pop the piston and stop so quick it didnt hurt the cylinder? Its about $90 to replace piston, ring and liner.

I did not pull the piston out to see just pulled the head and saw hole in top of piston. When I pulled the back plate off there was a chunk of metal in the groove where the rod turn at the crank. Not sure how bad everything is scored up.

I had a Hyper go bonkers last year. The chicken dance did it in.
Belive or not. I sent it back to OS for repair and I was only charged for S/H of a replacement motor. Two week turn around time.

My name is Billm. Cough, and I'm a Heli Holic
