Futaba 2.4 Gig Problems

I'm thinking of converting to a Futaba 2.4 Gig system. However, before I do, I would like to know what specific problems you have had. I am looking for people who have had problems themselves or if you have a first hand account of watching someone else with a problem. No rumors or "I heard this one guy had such and such and issue.

Also note, I repsectfully ask this be limited to Futaba only. 99.9% of my stuff is Futaba so I'm not really looking at JR or Spectrum.

Thanks in advance. -Steve

I have two friends with the futaba faast systems works fine. My experience with them helping out with setup and dialing thier ac in has been just fine. If I was out to buy a new radio I would prooly go with the new 10c myself.

I have the 6ex. The only problem that I had is the receiver going into fail safe. That wasn't a problem from the futaba stuff. I used 4.8 volt nimhs and they weren't sufficient for my heli. When I changed over to a fromeco set up, I never had a problem with the fasst system again.

One of the problems you may have heard on the 6 channel and 7 channel systems is that some of them left the factory without their unique ids set. That caused some people to have problems of actually being on the same unique id. Futaba offers or offered a free service to check the radio. From my understanding of talking to them on the phone this was limited only to the 6 channels and 7 channels set ups. I was informed that all the new ones are thoroughly checked for this problem.

I think the system is great and would only give up my 6ex for one with more channels.

Man, I miss the eighties.

The only problem was with the 7c fasst, and the tm-7 module. The old ones virtual memory could reset itself thus resulting a default code. If another system had reset itself, you would shoot that person down.

However, they fixed this problem, and now all fixed modules, and radio's have an I on the back of them.

As for the larger modules, and other radio's, they all are fine. At my field, we have a few people using them, and everything is fine.

You know you have to many heli's only when your wallet is empty.

the only problem i know of is the drain on the Rx battery, just use a large mAh pack go 6v or lipo with a regulator
and the 6ex id check is free but don't turn it off and back on too quick or it can loose its id , leave at least 5-10 seconds

7C FASST

I personally don’t favor the JR over Futaba. I currently own the 7C FASST and it is by far the best radio I’ve ever owned! I love the technology however, the only problem I had was the included stock NiCd battery rated at 600 mah. I never could understand why Futaba insists on NiCd over hydride on a newer radio. Whatever there reason, I just swapped it with a 2500 mah hydride that I purchased from Horizon Hobby and soldered my old leads to it. Now it’s perfect. I recommend this conversion to anyone.

My 2 Cents

be mindful as well with the amount of channels.

On my FF9 i can only get 7 or 8 channels in PPM mode if i was using the module that plugs into the back of My FF9 Super,
So until the 10 channel or more comes out it is no good for me as i fly turbines and large scale where i need a lot of channels.

I hear you but 99.9% of my stuff is Futaba and I changed to a JR radio only due to Spektrum's reputation. I can say that dealing with a X9303 will require nearly zero transition from a 9C and I still use my Futaba servos and gyros. So no reason to limit your choice although Futaba didn't have much to offer in 2.4 at the time I wanted to go to spread spectrum.

RE: Futaba 2.4

Im running FG12 2.4 on a Raptor50, MiniTitan and a MinAir Stratus. No problems whatsoever.
But the glitches I had from time to time on my old Futaba9 are all gone...

I have 10 birds of various sizes (Planes and Helis) now flying with the 14mz and 2.4 Faast. Everything is 100% glitch free.

I am using 607's 617,s and 608's

My TRex 500 dosent have any earthing mods or oil on the belt and flys perefectly unlike the Specktrum guys need to do.

I am so glad I didnt jump ship and trade my 14mz for Specktrum.

Futaba rules ok.

12z and 14MZ

These radios are the only ones that are software upgradable.
All others are not. If you plan on spending quite a bit of money then having an upgradable radio is the best investment you could do.

I have the 12Z and hope it will last me a life time.

the Futaba 2.4 G radios is what brought me back from a 15 year layoff.
to know i can fly anywhere and not be shot down makes the hobby 100% more enjoyable.
i bought the 6EX 2.4 when it first came out last year and have not had one glitch or any other problems.
if i had one complaint though it would be the time it takes to lock in when used at the house...........competing with my router and wireless phones gives it a delay time of up to a minute at times, but otherwise at the field it's instant.

i have the 10C on backorder and can't wait to get my hands on it.....

my friend here in Fresno, CA also has the 6EX 2.4 and has had not one single issue.
it's neat going to the field and not even worrying about turning the radio on nor waiting for a frequency flag.

Only problem with FASST is that you cant really blame the radio when crashing "Oh I had a glitch.. Yeah, riiiiiight.."

Hmm, if you ask for only the problems, the chances are low that you'll want the system. Just a thought.

It's been 2 months now and pretty much no one has had any "real problems" so far. Sure looks like I want the system. Thanks. -Steve

don't worry about the programing of the jr dsx9 2.4 as it will be similar to the pcm9 and going from a futaba 9c to the pcm9 it's very hard
i fly a 9c 35mhz and have set up a few pcm 9's with no problems

but then again i would go for the futaba as i've had no problems with futaba radio 27 & 35mhz (27mhz was in rc cars)
