Computer Flight Simulators > realflight on a mac

I was wondering if anyone has used the boot camp utility to setup windows on a mac. I will be using xp pro as my window os. How big of a partition should I create. And will I need virus software once windows is running? I asked these questions on a mac forum, but haven't received a reply. I want to install realflight g3.5.

I was running this sim on my pc of 7 years, but if finally died! Any insight on this matter would be greatly appreciated!! I don't want to mess up my mac. Since I am a newby to mac.

Send a PM to Bart B, he is using it on his IMac. I will be doing the same when I can find a clean copy of XP Pro with SP2. For Bootcamp to work it has to be with SP2 on the disk.

Hello guys,

I am running Phoenix RC from using bootcamp on my iMac. It works great. For paritioning, I partitioned my hard drvie so that 40GB went to the Windows and the rest mac. It all depends on what you are going to put on the windows side or just the sim. When you open up bootcamp it will give you the option to go up to 32GB and more you, should probably partition the hard drive to at least 32GB because then the format changes from the old FAT32, to the newer NTSC. Its better for the whole computer but it is just a preference. Hope this helped. Feel free to ask question if you need.

Thanks, I was planing on doing a 32gb partition for windows. I have a 500gb drive on my mac already. I noticed that Norton AntiVirus has a Dual Protection for Mac

Protects your Mac when running Windows with Boot Camp or virtualization software

I was thinking of purchasing it when I setup windows. I was just wondering what everyone else was using!

well, it's done. Install boot camp and windows xp pro. Realflight runs like a dream. The graphics are way better on the mac then they were on my old pc. The intermittent frame freezes are no longer. Couldn't be happier.

I have to see if I can get my G2 to work on this 24" iMac, would be much better than the 17" tube pc monitor on my other computer.

hey
it will run...but not very good....

to take advantage of graphics and to ensure no frame drops....you should run it with bootcamp...

parallels and fusion don't run natively...aka....they are a NO NO for games/simulators

Thanks

Hey jamonmodels,

Just like nojohnny101 said, bootcamp is the way to go, you can always count on it to work, I have no experience with parallels or fusion but I have read that bootcamp is the most reliable. Some people even say even though parallels says it is usb compatible, sometimes the usb doesnt work with parallels.

Actually, currently neither RealFlight nor Phoenix will work under Fusion or Parallels at all, not even performing poorly. Bootcamp is the only way to go.

I've read that AFPD will work under virtualization, since it uses OpenGL instead of DirectX, and OpenGL is better supported. I have tried Clearview, FMS,and RCHeliSim under Parallels, and they all work, but at a much lower framerate than when running natively with Bootcamp.

bootcamp on the mac is the way to go, I'm using the bare minimum partion of 10G.

I have G3.5 it runs great, smooth as silk.

I'd rather be flying
