MD530 (military) on it's way... thought maybe some of you that have built one would have some tips.. Here's the setup.

Raptor 50V2 (HyperRaptor)
9252's all around
3151 throttle
401 gyro w/9254

Thanks.

My build thread is here: http://www.scalerchelis.com/phpBB2/...php?f=17&t=8727

There are also several here on RR. It goes together very easily. Probably the biggest pain is getting the skids together and the grommets in fuselage. The cutouts marked for the grommets are far too small. Open them up slowly in the marked location until you can get the grommet in. The continue to open them up more, until you can slide the aluminum strut through the grommet (fairly easily) with the grommet in the fuse.

It also helps to pre-thread the plastic strut pieces by threading the screws in with the parts assembled off the fuselage.

If you have any other questions as you go, just shout!

Looking forward to your results!

Easy build. You're gonna love it when it's done! It's not necessary, but it's not a bad idea to mount the 401 and 9254 up front so they are easy to get to for maintainance/inspection with the mechanics mounted in the fuse.

What do I expect for the finished weight? and do I balance it just like the standard 50?

Thx.

It's here!!! Finally I got all the parts to complete my R50... along with the MD530.. I know I need to break in the R50 before putting on the fuse... but it is tempting to just do it... However I think I will run at least a gallon before I do..

Trust me on this, get in the habit of being comfortable with the mechanics before you stuff them in a fuselage.

You may have seen my other post about the Hyper going south during the first start... I was so looking forward to getting it broke in so I could get the fuse on.. Unforunately the piston ring broke immediately upon first start.... locking up the engine... I can only hope OS gets me a new one... AND FAST!!!!

I just wonder how the engine locked up like that when its new?.Did you set the neddle with mfg. recommended setting for start up?..If so you might want to check the components first. If it overheat engine should just die but wont lock up. If you have not done it yet which i know you did. Remove the engine, check components, clutch, fan, etc. for looseness. Check engine if it turns..On a raptor if you did not locktite this items they will back off causing the clutch to jam against the clutchbell or vice versa its like you have a locked engine..

Yeah me to... I turned it by hand a couple times before starting and everything seemed ok... then put the start on... a couple short blips and it fired.. for abou 2 revolutions then was locked... kinda herd a pop.. like when a clutch backs off... but clutch was fine.. and no hydrolock..as it barely had time to get enough fuel in it to start...

I think maybe the ring was probably damaged during install at the factory.. unfortunately it caused alot of internal damage... pics are here: http://runryder.com/helicopter/p3435856/

I would say its a manufacturers defect..Sometimes you get this kind. Like what they always says "In a bag of apples theres always that one bad one" and you got it...Sorry but thats just the way it is sometimes. I would send it back to the place i have purchase it and maybe they can findout what happens..

Did you have to cut the fuse to use standard v2? I have a 50se and was going to get a titan boom and belt. Isn't this fuse for a titan 50?

Yes...the tail section of the fuse is a little longer..Titan fits right in but a regular V2/SE tail is a little shorter..You really dont need to get a Titan boom and belt just trim a little bit at a time, I did..And she fly's great...

I put a v2 in but used the titan boom and belt, you have to hack off just short of an inch to use the standard boom, for the cost of a boom, belt, and pushrod, it was worth it for me for it to look better.

I am using a V2 boom in my MD530. If there isn't a fuse sitting next to it with a Titan boom in it to compare, you would never know the boom has been shortened. Even if there was a fuse with an uncut boom next to it, you would probably be hard pressed to see a difference.

Finally got the V2 broke in and started assembling the fuse. Couple questions..

1. I noticed my fuse does not have the plywood bracing in the front. Is this just a new version of the fuse? The directions say nothing about the plywood, but there are still pics with it in there.

2. Decided to run exhaust out the rear.. lots of tips on here... but still looking for that perfect choice.

3. So how exactly do you retention the belt? looks difficult to get back there with an allen.

I agree the gromets are a PITA. Best advise... don't follow the directions. Just cut the openings larger... more so on the back ones, the insert the braces, attach struts, then finally install joiners and skid pipe. Another tip.. run the screws in and then out of the braces before installing. Why would they use fine threaded instead of self tapers here? oh well.

The plywood up front is just for mounting the RX battery. If the kit didn't come with anything, you'll want to fabricate something to mount the battery as far forward as possible. Even with a 4500 pack, I needed some lead in the front to balance mine.

Adjust the belt tension with the mechanics out of the fuse, and get the boom bolts tightened up. Install in the fuse by removing the tail case/rotor as a unit. It's a bit fiddly, but you can reinstall the tail unit once the mechs are installed in the fuse. Just work the pulley into the belt, then pull back and put some tension on it 'till you can get the half of the case with the rotor in place. Then install the other half of the case and tighten up the bolts. It's really pretty easy.

Pics of exhaust. I was able to find a power brake check valve grommet at the auto parts store that fit a piece of 5/8 heater hose perfectly. I used a piece of an old hobbico exhaust deflector over the muffler extention and then put the heater hose over that. Nice thing is the heater hose holds it shape very well and hopefully can handle the temps.
