Radio - Futaba FASST > Is it just me or is the 7C a pit "plasticy"

Guys,

Don't get me wrong, I love Futaba, I love what the 7C can do, but I hate that it looks so cheap. Their T10CHP is a work of art as is the 12FGA, but i can't justify 10 channels let alone 12.

Such a small green LCD screen really detracts from the product as does the cheap silver finish. What do you guys think, i really only need 6 channels, i want 2.4GHz but i want it to look like a nice product as well.

Do you really need to spend US$600 to get a great radio?

Cheers,
Jeff

Try spending $2000 in a radio (14mz) and still have that cheap silver plastic feel.

I know, I own one!

Tony

PS - If JR radios weren't limited in some aspects, their magnesium case would have won me over.

Well its a radio - its menat to be reliable and fly your model with full control, not to be a male (or female) catwalk model..

It should feel and look, solid and reliable, hand in hand with its supposed solid and reliable operation. It should look superior to other 2.4GHz radios, it's Futaba and you're paying for it.

i have the ff9 and yes even with the silver bits it feels plasticy
a friend of mine has the 10c and it feels more solid but there both made of the same stuff (plastic) so really its only the extra weight that makes it feel less plasticy. so the only reall solution is to put a couple pound of lead inside

I have a load of spots... two of which are white heads

Hi,

Have had only about 20 flights with my 7c on my Mini T. It felt thicker than my previous JR9X2 (JR 9303) and am still getting use to the feel but I really love the technology.

Rotfl. My FF9 has WHITE SPOTS where the paint has chipped off.

I'm so glad they corrected it with the 14mz... mine now has BLACK SPOTS. Much better than white spots no doubt.

Don't get me wrong. The 14mz is the best radio out there and I'm not giving mine. I really love the programming and funcionality of it but the outer shell is embarrasing.

7C

Most of everyone here is using such high tech transmitters. I wouldn’t even know what to do with all those extra channels. I could see how its could be beneficial in scale ships but definitely an overkill for an average person like myself. In regards to your topic, that’s affirm on the switches. On the 7C throttle cut, along with other functions, is switch asignable. The Acro version is defaulted from the factory differently from the heli but can be personalized and changed. You can download the manual from the Futaba website so you can get a better perspective. Anyway, I love my 7C. I personally don’t think it looks cheap until you remove the heavy NiCd battery and then it certainly feels cheap. The antenna could have been a little beefier too. I wish Futaba would of made it a little more durable like what you see in wireless routers. It feels and looks so flimsy that I’m paranoid on breaking it. The other problem I had was the stock Nicd battery rated at 600 mah. I never could understand why Futaba insists on sticking with Nicd batteries on their new products. In any event, I replaced it with a 2500mah Hydride from Horizon Hobby and soldered my old leads to it. Now were cooking! Anyway, aside from what I’ve already mentioned it’s a great transmitter for the budget conscious. In my opinion, of course.

Goodpoint Zman, is there any one here actually using 10 or more channels on their radios??

Another question. How many volts are the trasnitter batteries could you use a 3 cell lipo??

Cheers,
Jeff

That is a nice little gizmo. Funny how I haven’t discovered it earlier. Darn it!! Used up all my available channels on my 7C already. Unless there’s a way around it that you guys are aware of. Do share… I want one.. LoL.

Zman9545: You definitely can. The switchglo is negative shifted so it will work with a Y harness to the gyro. You just need to setup a switch that will get the gyro out of HH (into negative zone) and the switchglo should turn on.

The official site has some info concerning this and if you do a search on RR many have done it that way.
