Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > RAPTOR 30 Tail lets go

Hi all,

Please could you advise me on the cause and solution to the problem i'm having with the tail of my raptor 30 (os 32) letting go. The last few times i've flown it the tail seems to hold ok for a while then lets go for about 90 degrees (nose left). I noticed tonight that it is ok when i hover but whenever i add throttle it lets go. There was a right side wind tonight but it was holding ok in the hover.

I have recently changed fuel from 10% coolpower to 20% wildcat. The servo for the tail is an old cheap hitec one but has been fine until now. The gyro is a csm 420. I have just purchased a JR8900G servo but havent fitted it yet. Do you think just fitting the servo will fix the problem, or do you think there is something else wrong?

Thanks for any help.

I definitely suggest fitting the new servo and then carrying out a test flight

You could also check the tail belt just in case it's a bit slack and catching itself. Also check the connections for the gyro. Does the heli recover after yawing 90 degrees? I mean if you input a correction does it respond?

Tach.

I had a problem with a csm 560 (the older big one) doing exactly the same thing, kicking the tail round 90 degrees when it felt like it really. Turned out to be a static issue and grounding the boom to the engine mount solved it for me. Have you always had the 420 on? Did you change the needle settings on the engine when you changed fuel? is the engine still nice and cool (not running lean)? The new servo will be alot better than the old one so just fit it and see what happens and check the belt. Just a few things to check

Thanks guys. I will certainly check the belt, i did buy one last week so i can change it if need be.

I have had the 420 gyro since a got the raptor about 3 years ago. The hitec servo is from a previous chopper (moskito basic - ouch) so the servo has about 5 years use, i guess it feeling its age now

A guy at the club did change the needle setting for me when i changed fuel, he seemed to do climb outs no problem - but he is a very good pilot.

Thanks for the help.

thanks

thanks all. i put the new servo in, setup the gyro and it was better but not perfect. it still twitched sometimes. i then swaped the main blades (from wooden to plastic) because the covering on the wooden ones had come loose on the tips so i thought it may cause vibration. anyway, whatever the reason it was BEAUTIFUL today! no wind so i tried the stuff i wanted but only had the guts to do on the sim - namely backwards figure 8s, and even a tail-in circle. It was amazing, the tail did exactly what it should (no twitches) and made me forget the hassle i'd had in the last couple of weeks.

Nice one guys, thanks.
