Why are you guys cutting ?.....No need to cut anything!
Just use 2 smaller bearings... The same that the dog bone start shaft goes through. If you upgraded your fan to the cnc one way unit then you have them in your tool box already.

Here is some pics I found to show you what I'm talking about.

Its almost like the frames were designed for this mod. Fits perfect!

Don't forget to clean the shaft/inner race and then use Permatex Sleeve Retainer on the inner-race of the bearings so they will NOT spin on the shaft and cut it in half. This tip came from century I believe.

If you lock the 2 bearings to the shaft with 242 loctite, or even better the 609 loctite, you don't need to do the mod. Why is everyone obsessing over it? It doesn't hurt to do it, but for me is not high on my priority list, and my stock hawk is still on the original counter shaft after many many gallons and flights....

Ravenhyper50,

IMHO if you install one of the larger bearings on top of the existing bearing by trimming the plastic lip, and delete the two spacers, it works better because the bearing is farther to the top of the shaft and the pinion gear, where all the load is.

I agree with you Jester.... assemble the heli properly..no need for all the extra parts. Lighter too.

It's OK....It's not your fault !!!

I just use loctite. But RH50's Idea look's simple and will add longevity aswell, and i can also see SteveH's Veiw point , the farther apart your baerings are the better.
It seams the ultimate desighn would be a combination of all three .Loctite and three extra bearings.
Should be able to survive a nucular holicost then.
But really I have 9 century heli's with that set up . Except for one of my hawks, never had a problem Just loctiteing the bearings, and by the way don't use 242 loctite .I use red or green.
The one i had go out was before i knew about the loctite trick. And it was a hawk ,around the time of the soft shaft quality control problem from century.

I also agree with Jester...and I have literally thousands of flights on this power system over the 12 years I have been flying Hawks Falcons & Ravens and cannot say I have found it an issue, except for one that had the defective/recalled primary shafts from their initial batch from their new factory a few years ago.

All that I have that used the proper shafts have been good with just using the 609 bearing retainer on the inner race of the two stock bearings.

That being said, if you want to add more bearings to support it, that will certainly add to the operational life of any shaft. In fact the next time I have to open up my Raven (now with almost 300 flights) I may do the mode just as a test to see the difference after another 300 flights.

Ok good to know what works.
Phil, yours might be locked on already from the rust and ocean humidity there! Lost acrashed Hawk in a field one night and found it the next morning, but half of the cross frame shafts were rusted already.
