so if i have a 9c and a dx7, go more with the dx7

The DX7 is one of the fastest radios out there. Even abit faster than the JR9303 2.4. I know the 9C feels better and better made than the DX7 but the fact remains the DX7 has superior electronics for latency.
I am no expert but if you do to Radios Gyro, Gov ,Servos section on this forum look for the post by Jkos. He went into great depth in testing all the radios out there and how quick they are. Still about the fastest radio there is 2.4 or not is the Stylus by Airtronics. This radio has been out in it's present form for well over ten years.
I think if anyone is going to upgrade or get a whole new radio they owe it to themselves to research this on this forum. Thats what it is here for after all.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

good to hear, i havent used the dx7 yet, but have alot of pcm stuff for the 9c, maybe i should make the jump to dx7/specktrum and just do it?

hi,

i just found out that i have a problem with my 2.4GHZ rx. (R608FS). one of the antenna cut off at the main connector due to crash.

questions:
1. why does the rx have dual antennas? what is the function?
2. will it operate with only one antenna?
3. can i re-solder the antenna? (i guess the antenna didn't lose its length due to the crash)

appreciate your feedback.

1. The Rx picks the best signal from either antenna. One may be shadowed by metal or CF. Spektrum uses two receivers, FASST uses one receiver and switches between two antennas.

2. Yes, but range is greatly reduced and you will lose signal when the antenna is behind something solid.

3. No, the antenna is a micro coax cable. Replacement antennas are available from Futaba for about U$10. They just plug in.
The part number for a replacement antenna is HSP79493.

fritz,

thanks for the prompt reply. just need further clarification on Q3. can i re-solder the antenna?

i noticed there is a gold plated plug which is connected to the antenna. my antenna is broken exactly at the plug.

so, can i still re-solder it or better not?

i just got a 2.4 conversion by specktrum for the 9.c seems ok, is it me or can i tell the speed difference between the 9c and dx7 with the naked eye?

I don't think you would be able to see the difference with the naked eye or at least I wasn't between my DX7 and 9C. Keep in mind, the difference between the latencies is in milliseconds so I would think you'd have to have an eagle eye to be able to see it. I've heard the only way to really tell between a fast radio and a slower radio, is to be doing hard 3d and transitioning between the manuevers i.e. going from say a tic-toc directly to an inverted funnel or something along those lines. The slowness makes the transition a little more tricky but that is only what I've heard and cannot speak from experience myself.

At this point, I am lucky to be able to do forward flight and just basic acrobatics so my 2.4 modulized 9C fits me just fine.

would the latency be worse in the 8UAFS than in the 9C?

I am yet another flier torn between 2.4 module for existing transmitter, and dx7 or 10C.

I'm flying helis on PCM, and it works fine.

I don't know about the 8UAFS as compared to the 9C in terms of which is faster or slower. I can tell you that I have been told, that since the 2.4ghz Fasst modules utilize the PPM stream (FM) and not PCM, the radios do have a faster latency using a 2.4ghz module vs. just plain old 72mhz PCM. FWIW

I bought the 10C as opposed to upgrading the old 9C.

2048 resolution in FASST 10-channel mode.

Like they say.. "You can feel the difference"

*From Futaba's web site*
Some people feel that a 2.4GHz system with a built-in module will always offer better response than a modular system. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The 10C is a modular system, yet offers response superior to most “dedicated” systems. Why? Because response doesn’t depend on whether your module is built-in or modular. It depends on whether your signal starts in analog or digital form.

Converting a signal from analog to digital form requires processing time — what you experience as lag. The 10C, on the other hand, was designed with a totally digital data stream. The signal starts digital and stays digital. Since no additional processing is needed, there’s no lag, either — just virtually instantaneous, real-time response.
