Radio - Futaba FASST > Futaba 9CHP into 2.4

Hello everyone,
i am sorry if this question has been covered already on here, i didn't have time to look around. i am currently running a Futaba 9CHP radio which is FM/PCM capable. I am tired of the crap with the FM system and want to upgrade to be able to run 2.4ghz. I am looking at the Futaba R608FS 8-Channel 2.4GHz FASST Rx/TM-8 Tx Module

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXRTU7&P=0

This way i can stick to my same radio which i love and and all my current settings and so forth...

My question is is this set up a good one. is using this module in this radio been of quality performance, or has numerous people had problems with it??? everyone keeps saying oh you should just sell your 9C and go to a JR9303 2.4ghz radio!!! but that sucks, i love my radio and i am a faithful Futaba user have been for some time. So is this set up a good one? will it work out nice and not give me issues, is it just as good as using the model swap on the JR9303 FM version??? i really want to get this very soon, cause i am building a Trex600E and need to put a RX in it and don't want to buy another PCM RX if i can go ahead and make the transition into Spectrum FASST with my radio and be done with all the FM crap and interference, i have already been shot down once with PCM. So Please,PLEASE, let me know what any of you think about or have heard about this exact setup.

thanks
clint

The Futaba Fasst system is the most robust 2.4 system available at the moment. I agree with you as I love my 9C programming also. There is one other route for you, instead of buying the module ($170) and the Rx ($100) you could buy a new 10C ($600) which has the same programming as the 9C with a couple xtra features.

The problem with the 10C is that it should be out in 6 weeks. The 7C is also the same programming for cheaper, only negative point of this modelnis you don't have the pitch and throttle graphs. On the upper hand the lantency to these is much better than the 9CHP.

wow this is great stuff, i see that all of you are saying that at least if i ended up going with my current setup and getting the module i will be in good shape, YES. this is all i wanted to know. i just want to make sure that this module and setup with my 9CHP will work good with no glithes or problems of any kind, basically as good as all the guys that are using the JR9303 version, which is everyone at my field, hopefully know i can show them it works just as good as with Futaba. thanks guys keep it coming, let me know more of your opinions with this setup.

I bought the 8 channel module for my 9C and love it. Works perfectly. Not having to go to the frequency board... priceless.

I'm running the 9CHP with TM-7 module on my heli. I love it. I had the 9C from a couple of years ago and obtained a DX7 after all the hoopla surrounding it. I used it twice and sold it on here (felt cheap in my hands and just didn't have the programming the 9C does) and went back to my 9C. I love the feel of the 9C in my hands and the programming is easy and intuitive IMO. Plus, if I ever want to fly cheap foamies (which I occasionally do), all I have to do is swap out the module with my Synthesized module, select a channel, grab the freq. pin and fly.

I think Futaba sticking with the module based system is a great thing in that it allows us the option to go back to 72mhz if we need to or don't want all those RX's we already have going to waste.

If I thought you weren't my friend...I just don't think I could bear it.

Exactly derek533, you hit the nail right on the head. i am still planning on using my PCM RX that is already in my Trex450, and Futaba made it really easy for me to do so by just switching right back to my FM module. I am very happy about this option, i also have alot of foamies and other planes and helis that will still have to run on FM/PCM. i am glad to hear you are having alot of success with your 2.4ghz module for your 9c. i just bought mine at the LHS today, got the 8chmodule with 8chRX combo version and can't wait to get it in my Trex600E. I was not about to get rid of my 9CHP, i too love the feel of it in my hands and i love all the programming options and how easy they are to use. thanks again for all your input.

hi there,

i am planning to buy 2.4ghz module and rx for my 9c as well. do i need to upgrade the radio software or just swap the module without the need to do anything on the radio?

and, do i have to change the setting for the model i fly? does the swap will affect the settings?

thanks in advance.

Hey There nadianaharis,
you will love the upgrade switch to 2.4ghz on the 9C! NO you do not have to change or upgrade anything else, all you have to do is take the FM module out of your TX and put the 2.4ghz module in. every setting and all software will work exactly the same. You do have to make sure that you are set to PPM and not PCM. Basically the transmitter uses the FM settings and then lets the module take over. its simply the module speaking to the 2.4 RX and they are only on one specific language to each other. Mine actually came already synced with my RX cause i bought the 8ch. combo package. Anyway i have been using now for about 3 weeks with my new Trex600E and have had no problems at all, i love it!!! Good luck hope this helps you with your decision.

clint,

i start to like the 2.4. so much easier as i don't have to do frequency checking. i felt awkward at first because there's no antenna sticking out.

anyway, one question came across my mind yesterday. do i have to do the 'linking' again should i change the model.

illustration: i am flying knight 3D on model 10. i wanna copy the model setting to model 2. do i have to do the 'linking' all over again or just copy to model 2 without the linking procedure?
