It's beginning to look the part now and hopefully, we will be ready to test fly in the next 5 weeks.
Middle rails for the doors are complete and the top/bottom should be done soon.

Thanks guys, I'm getting real excited to see it finished and finally in the air. With a very strong wind behind us, we might just make the Vario fly-in at Bicester at the beginning of August

Yes, it will be great to meet the regulars. The workshop belongs to Tris, my friend who is helping (read doing 70% of) the build. Tris is a very handy engineer and has lathe, milling machine etc, so he is the primary builder fo this machine. I guess you would call me the "sponsor", as I have funded it all.
I'll really look forward to seeing your 1/4 scale ranger.

it is good to have a fellow builder with a workshop,

I have a fellow scaler helping me, i never saw the point of a lathe or milling machine, but PeterRob was able to make a new shaft and many other mods, make spacers, etc to enable me to fit what i wanted..

Where would be without these old scalers

Take Care, really nice machine you have!!

i think how many hours you have put in on the HOTCAT Peter it will be a whole carcass- in the states thats just a medium sized steak
~( rip off it horns and wipe its butt lol)

Ps the biggest i ever had was 96oz and if i could eat it it was free.

I got to 48oz, and they gave me an ice cream free.

We are making a minor change to tail layout so that the defuser can be removed and the link rod goes back to being central (we don't like the flipped lever arrangement). We have to finish the sliding door mechs, fit the exhaust and a few of the nav lights before fitting the tail. Then just a few minor scale bits before building up and test flying, so it really is quite close.
The test flights will include setting up the Helitronix mixer etc, then we strip it and send it for priming.
Once primed, it comes back to me for riviting prior to the final paint and laquer.
There will no doubt be a few things that add to this list as we go along, so I have to allocate some time to that. This does make the August 2/3 a very tight deadline. If we think we are going to miss it, we may postpone the painting and bring the finished machine (no paint) to show instead.

Cheers

Darren

We have just got some tiny bearings for that and will be finishing the lower/upper tracks this weekend. I will send you some pics of those too. The bearings are 1.5mm internal diameter x 2mm thick x 5mm outer diameter.

We now have one door system completed, just need to mirror it the other side.

There is also a video of the doors here http://media.putfile.com/Sliding-doors
