Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > 700mm blades with a 61 engine?

I notice a lot of guys using 700mm blades on a 60 ship with a OS/YS 61 engine.

Do any of you guys run 700mm blades on a 60 (not an 80/90)?

Since I am buying tail booms, do you think I should just get the longer boom?

I don't want to put on 700's and then have a mid-air tail strike.

Should I do the 700mm conversion?
(700mm blades cost the same, and should auto' better, right?)

(I do sport flying with moderate 3D)
(XL SE - 31.5" boom, 680mm V-blades (presently), OS 61 WC)

should be proportionally matched .. 700 with a 61 means a more work for the motor .. the other thing is how many grams of blade weight is considered too much at 700mm using a 61as oppose to a 80?..

used 680's at 225gms with a YSst2 .. great for fai and auto's but I wouldn't use them for 3d .. 700's would auto better too given the increased disk area ..

I got some good advice

Yes, the jury has decided that 700's are not as good for 3D as 680's are. While I would like a little more reserve in an auto, I do more 3D than auto's for sure.

I just got the standard tailboom - and I'll stick with the 680's while I have a 61. I suppose one day I'll get on the bandwagon and get a 80/90, then I'll be asking if I should use 700's or 710's :-)

700mm blades

I was just up at CCRC and BMRC this past weekend 2/16 with my fury.
I fly the 700mm 186grm v-blades and paddles on a .61wc and muscle pipe with no problems and all I fly is 3D just depends on the feel and flying style you prefer.

since you like the heavier blades you will probably like the 7's

My Fury is setup with 700mm 178 gm blades and 100mm tailblades. The engine is a modified OS61WC with muscle pipe. This combination works great! If you end up using 700mm blades you should consider putting 3-shims on each side for the head dampning.

I am using the Rotorsport 700mm blades with my Fury. It was recommended to me by many Fury fliers, X-Cell Reps, and X-Cell that the Fury gets the best all around performance with them. Last time I checked the Fury came with 700mm blades and is marketed as a 3D extreme helicopter and not a FAI helicopter.

I am running 700 187 gram V-Blades on both vigor and Fury, the 61 can spin them up no problem.

175 grams is good weight . how much flexing occurs to the dish using shims only to straighten it out ?

On my Fury, 700 Gammas blades (176 gram) are much quicker than the 680 Rotorsports (186 gram) using my YS ST 2, but the Rotorsports are smoother. The 700's also auto better.

one thing that can be of difference between 700mm is the cord .. also has anyone actually measured the airfoil thickness between different blades .. does the the cord have something to do with it too where the weights are placed ? ..

for instance my gp9 2's 680-185gm's ,cord is 59mm, with a 8mm airfoil thickness , swept tips .. semi symetrical ..

my NHP black carbon 680's are 9mm airfoil thickness - 60mm cord -175gms - sq tips .. symetrical ..

whats the cord and airfoil thickness you guys have on the 700's ?
