I was thinking about moving my throt. servo to the lower front mount location so I will have more room for servo wires inside the frame, but then I started to wonder about how much heat would be on the servo. My muffler would be about 1" away and then you have it that close to the head also.

Can servos take that much heat? I fig. the top of the head will be around 250 most of the time, not sure how much heat would come off the muffler.

I have seen a few pics. with them down there, anyone have any issues.

I cant see that being a problem location. I dont think engine temperature would be enough to hurt electronics. As for exhaust temp. The frame is glass filled nylon or similar and it'd start getting very soft if it was seeing 325 or 350 and of course they never show signs of such so I dont think you'd get anything near that temp at the servo. I'd say you can do it with reasonable confidence. Do you have a data logger? If yes, setup the probe there and fly a couple flights and see what you get. I bet its going to be lower than you are thinking. I have my Arizona regulator pin switch down there mounted in HDPE and its always stone cold after a flight.

I have mine in that location and have always had it there. It looked like a better spot to me from the get go. I haven't had any problems and ther really is not much heat because the canopy sheilds the servo pretty well. I am using an hs-81mg for throttle. I have the same seervo for mixture on the other side and it works great too.

I meant to do that!!!

Remeber gang.
That is a servo hole by design.
If a heat issue was a problem. JB would not have put one there.
my 2 cents

I was doing some temp readings on the plastic that covers the top of the head (lower shroud) and it was running about 90F when the head was at 220F.

Then I found out something new today. Apparently temp. guns do not read correct when you take a reading off of polished mufflers. I took a reading after a flight and it said 100. So I think to myself, WOW can it be that cool? So what does the idiot do, I grab the pipe not just touch. I can tell you that it was alot hotter than 100. Finished flying today with 2 blisters on my fingers. I think I get dumber every year.

Anyways, I will be moving the throt. servo to the new spot this weekend.

Thats right, those guns need a mat finish. Sorry you grabbed your muffler. Wait, can I say that in public?

Hmm, Marty, I think you just did!
What are your thoughts with hitting the gun on the blue head of a hyper? You have had the data logger on the motor. What type of delta are you seeing?
