Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > A bit of help with the Stratus tail (Got the shakes)

I am having some difficulty with the tail on my Stratus. It has a fast twitch side to side in hover and flight. Here is my set-up:

JR 770 gyro
JR 8900 Servo

DX7 TX set to:
ATVs at 150%
Gain at 60%
Duel rates at 33%

The first issue is tail shake side to side on hover and in turns. The second issue is that the tail is slow. I am used to a faster piro rate. I would like it to be a bit crisper as well.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Help with gyro

Sounds like too much gyro authority, reduce ATV to 100% and then start reducing the gain.
Good luck Junkpilot

When you fly JUNK it's hard to tell when you've crashed!

But the manual says to start with 150% ATV.

I am with junkpilot, reduce to 100% and start from there.

Fixed! Turns out the gyro foam tape had too much flex. I put some thimmer 3M stuff on and the tail is solid now...

What gyro tape were you using? It would seem that you might not have nailed the problem, as the new tape is just keeping a vibration from getting to the gyro. If the vibration is still there, it is still hurting other things.

Wow, the ground was closer than I thought.

I went from a thick spongy tape to a thinner harder tape. There are no vibrations to cause the gyro to do this. I believe the old tape was too flexible and this made the gyro vibrate to create a tail movement. The tail is rock solid now. I even increased the gain. The JR770 sets up different than the Futabas that I am used to. When you read the instructions, you have a hard time believing them. ATV must be at 150%, gain is around 60%, than you need duel rates and expo.
