Being the government is giving everyone an extra tax return I'm thinking about picking up one of these kits

http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=163225FUT

My question is never having owned an MA heli can anyone tell me whether they are a good ship, I'm flying a Raptor 903d now and like it but I'm looking for something different. If I pick this up I will probably put an OS 70 with muscle pipe, Futaba 9252 on controls, GY 401 and 9254 combo with the DX7 radio and 680 blades. Can anyone comment on this setup seing as I only fly basic aerobatics. Thanks for the help.

Hi Rich!!!! Flying this model if the only way to say how much you wont want to fly the raptor again. Not that the raptor is bad or anything but you will never feel as connected to a machine that feels as nice as this. The setup you described will work just fine with the addition of a gearing change to accomidate the os 70. I am using a 70 in my stratus with 700's and i love it and it burns 1\3 less fuel then my 80 did. I am running a 95 tooth main gear and an 11 tooth pinion which gives me a ratio of 8.63. I had to modify a set of 8.45 sideplates ( just sloted clutch block holes about 1-1.5 mm .
I believe this kit comes with a 9.0 gear ratio which is fine also but beware of overspeeding the engine . 1900 on the head will give you over 17000 rpm on the motor. 18000 is max practical rpm but peak hp is at 16000 . with an 8.63 ratio 1850 on the head is 16000 rpm on the engine so i can get peak hp at a decent but not over run headspeed. I am also running an sb-16fh muffler and i love how quiet it is plus with the floating head i dont need any other mounts to come loose.

You can also get the adapter and use the hex starter that you probly have now for your raptor Good luck Tom

I love mine a lot and would not change it.

I Fly 690 Vblades with a YS91 and matching hatori pipe and I'm having a blast every year Can't wait for the temperature to get a bit higher...

either a Beam or the Fury

Man, you're comparing two very different machine... Flying both, I have to say those are my favorite ones! But it totally different class.

Both are fun and powerfull, the beam cost very little to repair too But the fury is bigger, more stable, more visible high and far...

Don't take any chances, buy both

Rich,

If you can swing it, get the fury Extreme, unless you specifically want a 60. There are several upgrades that are well worth the extra money, for example, the clutch, open tail box, flybar carrier, extra main shaft bearing block, are all upgraded on the Extreme.

I was looking at the Extreme but at this point I dont know whether I can swing the extra couple hundred dollars. I have always wanted a Miniature aircraft heli and would love to own a Stratus but thats way out of the budget at this point. I figured the 60 size Fury would make a good addition to my fleet. The more I look at this machine the more questions I come up with. I see they make a Fury to Stratus conversion kit. If I buy the 60 could I later on down the road buy the conversion kit to make it a Stratus? Thanks again for all the help.

I think you would prefer the power to weight ratio of the beam compared to a 60...

If it's not a 90, I'd go the Beam route. those small heli are superb, don't cost an arm and a leg and you don't need to bring a lot of stuff to the field...

Another option, is to wait a couple months for the New Bandit 50. I would imagine it'll be out this summer. It should have that MA quality, in a more affordable package. Don't get me wrong the Fury expert with an os 70, would be a fun heli, it just wont have quite the power of the 90, I guess it really depends on how hard you fly. The expert is still a nice helicopter.

I have your setup

I just got into helis just 6 months ago. The setup you just described is exactly what I have, with the exception of the electronics. This is only the second heli that I've ever flown, but I don't want any other kit besides another MA.

My 70 flies great for a little 3D flying, but I wish that I would have gotten the 90 for more power. As for fuel consumption... well I get about 10 mins on a tank of fuel running it mostly in stunt mode around 70 - 80% @ midstick and it still bogs down in some maneuvers. So I've got to be a little more carefull with my collective management.

I'd suggest the 90, but for someone like myself trying to save some money and still fly the best heli on the market, (My opinion) you go for it. You can always upgrade it later when you get more money. That is if you don't crash it first. And as far as Crashes are concerned... I've crashed mine several times, unfortuneately, but it seems to hold up better in crashes than my buddies raptor 50 Titan. Ever crash he has usually messes up his tail boom to the point of no repair. I've never had to replace mine, (bent it back out though) but I am upgrading it to the carbon fiber version next week. Hope it break next crash, and I will crash again.. it's life. Stuff happends.

Save your money until you can afford the extreme or in my opinion go for the Stratus.

You will outgrow everything else.
