Ok it's 10:30 am here and 95 degrees out so I put the air on and started messing with the King

Everyone is putting Trex sliders ECT on the King tail. Being the Rebel that I am I wanted something different.

I went with the Blade 400 slider (forgive me Tryan) and the Microheli CNC arm. This will only work with the CNC tail box because you have to move the mount for the arm up to align everything

This puppy is BUTTER smooth with full range of pitch ( now if I could just fly good enough to use it )

I would have preferred not to move the arm mount ( I like drop in mods)but over all I'm really happy with this.

Gary,

Thanks for doing my homework Ever since I figured out that the ball links for the tail blade grips have to be run loose, I've been trying to figure out how to replace the part with one that pivots on both ends. Every time I go to the LHS I've been checking out the B400 tail slider and wondering how much it would take to fit it on.

About your mod, did you use the MicroHeli tail slider specifically for the HBK2? I'm wondering why you had to move the mount arm up. Was it to support the MicroHeli piece, or to get the B400 piece to align correctly. Also could you just invert the mounting arm instead of moving it up. That way you'd still be able to use two mounting screws.

Hi Greg

The microheli arm is for the blade 400 the king one won't work. I tried the mount arm in all positions this is the only way it will line up due to the thickness of the arm where the bearings are. The blade slider snaps right on to the esky balls in the grips. You could use the plastic arm from the blade 400 but the same problem is there just cheaper. The arm that the servo rod snaps onto is shorter but I did not have to adjust throws gave me full range even with the short arm

PS now 11:30 its 97* out I CAN"T WAIT FOR WINTER

Nice setup. I have been thinking about doing a JC tail but I haven't done anything yet.

BTW: It is currently 61* and sunny without a cloud in the sky here. The wind is 0-5mph. It is a really nice day out!

I am just waiting for batteries to charge. I think it is time for another charger

Gary,

Thanks for the details, that explains it. The other issue I was concerned about is the width of the B400 slider. It appears to be wider than the stock slider which means less travel and therefore less pitch. I don't have the parts in-hand so I haven't measured. But if we loose some pitch due the width, the extra travel of the slider ends up being a net zero gain.

Because part of the width is consumed by the ball link holder (stock is flat, B400 is angled) we couldn't simply measure the slider width. The best measurement would to measure before and after pitch range on the tail blades. I'm not quite sure how to do that accurately.

Hi Greg

What happens is the slider moves more to the center of the shaft right about in the middle of it so you still get full range of pitch and more because of the Extra travel. The arms on the 400 slider are longer which is what moves everything to the tail box side and centers it up

Heres a pic trying to show it

Gary,

Thanks for the pic, that helps. Observations:

1) as you mentioned the ball links on the B400 arm are long which pushes the slider more toward the center for any given tail pitch. Since the stock piece gives up a few mm on the inside of the shaft, the B400 slider would get it back, result more travel

2) The actual slider body of the B400 pitch slider is a few mm wider as I suspected. This consumes some of travel on the shaft. Net result: less travel.

The net result of these two factors might result in no net increase in pitch. We'd need to measure the pitch range of both configurations to be sure.

Regardless of any increase in pitch (or lack of), the increase in smoothness and as well as the articulation on the ball links makes this mode worth it.

That's pretty cool stuff there....I have been like Chris and Greg looking at those B400 parts and wondering what could be done with them....
