Mmmm... I can try to help you...

Let's see where you're at...

Besides channels 1 - 6, what have you assigned the rest?

Have you installed the HC unit yet?

I just recieve the PC Software today with a adapter cable to use with the serial cable i already have.

I had it mounted and then took it off to test movement of servo's.

When i walked away for a few min. it burned up my 9254 tail servo.

Tell me what to do first.

I would like to install the software in my computer and do some
set up with it.

The radio is the bigest part for me that i would like to go threw.
I am not that good with it.

I move arround in it easy but do not understand much of it.

I'm worry about taking up you time.
Chandler at Esprit is where i bought it from and was supposed to help me but over the last three weeks i was working or they were moving or he wasn't there and now he is no longer there they tell me???????
He said it takes almost about an hour on the phone.

Greg

I'm assuming you've flown with this TX before HC correct?

You are able to set up pitch settings?

Familiar with the "MODEL" menu? "PROG. MIXES" menu?

First fix your tail servo.

Go through the HC manual at least once so you're familiar with some of the terms and setup procedure.

Pick a spot in your heli to install your HC unit. Let me know where you've installed it.

Gotta run for now...

Please read once over before attempting these changes.

It's probably best to start a "new" model in your radio. So this means you'll have to re-configure your pitch, throttle settings and any other switches you're using for your camera mount. The reason for this is when you change the swash settings on your current setup everything will be reset to factory defaults. Meaning all your pitch and throttle settings will be back to default settings. So I normally start fresh just in case I decide to fly with the older set up. Choice is yours.

You will also need to have your computer beside you when setting up the HC unit. Make sure that the software is able to read the HC unit. Use the drop down Port menu to select another port number. i.e. COM4. In the ALL tab of the HC software, at the bottom right, it should show connected; highlighted in green.

At this point I'm assuming that you've plugged in your servos correctly and plugged in the HC RC-Module correctly into your receiver.

Channels
1 – Throttle
2 – Rudder
3 – Gyro
4 – Aileron
5 – Elevator
6 – Pitch
7 – Pilot (green wire)
8 – Autotrim (gray wire)

__________________________________________________________________

Let's begin...

12Z Radio set up - PREP

1 Set your model type to H1

Linkage Menu > Model Type > Swash Type > select Swash H1

2
Reverse your throttle. This is common with Futaba radios.

Linkage Menu > Servo-Reverse > 1 Throttle > Reverse

If you're using an external gyro then you may or may not have to reverse your rudder as well. Test it out make sure it's moving in the correct direction. I've never used the tail gyro built into the HC unit. If you do decide to use the tail gyro in the HC unit hopefully someone here will chime in.

3 Set channel7 to Auxiliary1 and assign a slider

Linkage Menu > Function > scroll down to channel 7 and change that to Auxiliary1.

On the Control column choose a slider. You can either use left slider (LS) or right slider (RS). You choose. Leave TRIM column alone.

4 Set channel8 to Auxiliary2 and choose a switch.

Linkage Menu > Function > scroll down to channel 8 and change that to Auxiliary2.

On the Control column choose a switch. You can choose a dual position (SF, SG), triple (SA, SB, SC, SD, SE) or a spring loaded switch (SH). You choose. Leave TRIM column alone.

We'll go back to the 12Z later on...

HC software setup.

1 First thing we have to setup is the mounting orientation. In the HC software, click on the Mixer tab. At the very top you'll find the Mounting Orientation section. Select the correct position of the HC where you've installed it at. This is looking from the rear.

So, looking from the rear and if the HC unit is on the right; then choose "right" and so on.

Click on "Write" button.

To the right of this sections is the Main motor direction. Choose. (I'm assuming Logo spins right)

2 Set up the swash. In the same tab, right below, select Tri(120°)

Click on "Write" button.

3
Set your servos to move in the correct direction. In the same tab, below left , you'll find the "servo reverse" section. Reverse as required.

Click on "Write" button for each change.

You will need to go back to this tab later on when setting up your pitch.

4 Click on the "Tail Gyro" tab.

You will need to select "autotrim & gyro mode" to enable autotrim.

IF you're not using the HC tail gyro and IF your HC unit supports the firmware then you can choose "autotrim switch only". If not "autotrim & gyro mode" is fine.

Click on "Write" button.

5 "Hor + Pos" tab.

In this tab you will have to play with on your own. This is where you set the sensitivity of the stabilization. I've set mine up, as suggested by rerazor, so when my slider is in the max position is also the point before the heli will begin to oscillate. It's best to bring a laptop to the field so you can adjust on the "fly".

We'll go back to the HC unit later on for Pitch...

Save your data...

Click on ALL tab.
Top right, click Save As button.

__________________________________________________________________

Back to the 12Z...

Programming in the slider and switch.

1 Slider (Horizontal and Position Hold)

Model Menu > Prog. Mixes > Select an available mixing number (i.e. 1). Rotate dial to Activate and push to select. Ignore whatever it shows you for now. We will change this.

Press Enter button.

There are 3 pages. If you move the CURSOR button down you will see that you can scroll to the next pages and will recycle around.

Move to the second page.

You should see a FUNCTION, H/W LINK at the top.
Move to the MASTER field and change that to the slider you chose. i.e. RS, LS
Move to the Slave field and change that to Auxiliary1 and change the link to a plus sign. (+).
(I know the image shows AUX2. That's my setting)

Move back to the first page where you can set the curve.

In the MODE field, choose LINEAR.
In RATE A and B adjust both to +100. You should have a line that goes up from bottom left to top right.

If you move the slider, that you've chosen, you should see a vertical line moving across as you move the slider.

Done. That was easy wasn't it?

2 Autotrim switch.

Hit the "Return" button. (left side of TX). You should go back one page. Back to the Mixing options. Choose another mix. (i.e. 2) and Activate it just like previous. Push the ENTER button.

Move to the second page.

Change MASTER to Auxiliary2, Link "-"
Change SLAVE to Auxiliary2, Link"-"
(Again, mine show AUX1)

Move to third page.

Change the SWITCH field to the switch that you chose.

Move to the first page.

Choose LINEAR. This will be tricky. You will need to work with the HC software in the "Diagnose" tab.

Autotrim is enabled when the HC unit receives a gain of at least 60%. You'll have to play around with both RATEs A & B. You may also have to adjust the OFFSET field.

Here are my settings. Whatever works for you...
RATE A: -41.5
RATE B. -128.0
OFFSET: -70.0

In the diagnose tab, in the HC software, you should see the autotrim moving as you flick the switch. Also the light on the HC unit should be flickering RED. You only have to momentarily flick the switch to "autotrim". Do not leave the switch in autotrim mode.

Done.

__________________________________________________________________

Now check your work...

"RC & Trim" & "Diagnose" tabs.

In the diagnose tab when you move your cyclic and pitch you'll see their movement accordingly if it is moving in the correct direction...

IF not you will have to reverse them by going back to the RC & Trim tab.

__________________________________________________________________

IF this is a new MODEL in your TX you will have to setup your pitch and throttle again.

Go back to your HC software and click on the Mixer tab.

There you will find the "Control Travel" section and "Coll. Pitch Offset" section.

First make sure you are able to reach the min and max pitch range. I don't know what they are with the Logo. For example, -10, 0,+10.

Set your throttle position to 50%. With a pitch gauge make sure your pitch is at 0°.

With your pitch gauge check your pitch when your throttle is at 0% and at 100%. Both should be equal. ie. -10, +10. IF NOT you will have to play with the "Coll. Pitch Offset slider" to achieve this.

When you've achieve this then set your desired pitch settings in your TX.

In the Control Travel section adjust these sliders until there is no binding during cyclic movements and pitch.

NOTE: If you're programming in an IDLE 1 or 2 with higher pitch ranges make sure there is no binding.

Save your data...

Click on ALL tab.
Top right, click Save As button.

__________________________________________________________________

Back to 12Z...

Don't forget to set up

- If you require IDLE1 and IDLE2. (Model Menu > CONDIT. SELECT)
- Throttle curve... (Model Menu > THR CURVE) Then use dual rates in AFR(D/R)
- Expos (Model Menu > AFR (D/R))
- Autorotation settings – set up a switch with enough negative/positive pitch
- Fail safe settings (Linkage Menu > Fail Safe)
- Throttle hold (select a switch) (Model Menu > THR HOLD)
- Timer (count up/down)
- Camera switches
- You shouldn't have to touch END POINT (ATV). This is all controlled in the HC software.

__________________________________________________________________

Bench Test

By simply tilting your heli forward or backward the swash plate should move in the opposite direction.

Test flight

Start off with the HC unit in the off position. (red light)

Hover the heli for about 8 seconds. Then flick on the autotrim switch for a second and flick it back. Your heli should hold its position quite well.

You could autotrim as often as you wish.

NOTE: If you want to hover with a different orientation you will have to autotrim again.

Once trimmed, slowly move the slider to the horizontal hold (orange light). If there is too much gain the heli will oscillate.

If oscillation occurs lower down the total sensor gain in the Horizontal and Position mode section in the "hor + pos" tab.

Same with Position hold. If gain is too much the heli will oscillate. Do the same with the Position Sens. Gain in the Position mode only section.

Good luck!

That would only be true due to the wind. Technically, it should make no difference the orientation. Or are you finding something else with your test results?

dam noobs...what's your hourly rate?

This is going above and beyond again...and it is great that you do it because maybe there is something there for everybody who just do not ask questions. I'll benefit by it whenever I get around to taking the Futaba out of the box - THANKS!

Robert you're correct. I guess I got use to the wind flying this past winter. I don't think there was one day with zero wind.

Seablade I just got the courage to hover inverted... BTW have you seen my loopy crash? LL

Syon,

I need to know what TX you are using and what channel you have your slider set on for horizontal gain and what switch set for auto trim?

We will not bother with the Position Hold portion for initial setup.

Also a picture of where/how you have the sensor mounted would help.

It used to be The optics were(if looking towards the tail) on the right hand side of the tail boom.
When i get in this weekend, i'll download the info from the HC, and also grab a few pics, may have to reconnect it all back up, and start from scratch. seems like it would be ideal. your opinion?

a heli is like a marriage, most of the time it works, the rest it don't.

Noobs, two things...

Firstly, you have way too much time on your hands.

Secondly, the original question was for a Hilicommand not Helicommand

Nicely done Noobs. Have you got your MJ back in the air yet?

I'm still out of the country at the moment so mine is still in the same state I was hoping the heli fairies would have it done before I get home, lol.

Thanks guys!

Krav, yes my MJ2 is back. Fixed her up last week before my vacation. Just got back from a test flight.

Here she is after several crashes... (canopy is cracked all over)

Jetman check out HeliCommand's page.

About seven months ago I never knew a single term in RC. Never knew a thing. Literally. A member here, FERGUS, explained everything to me in great detail. Walked me through every step of the MJ2 build.

The 12Z alone was a nightmare. He didn't have the radio but he downloaded the manual and tried to figure it out for me. He led me through the correct path. If it wasn't for him I would still be lost. Another member here, I forget who, shared his 12z setup images and that helped even further.

I'm only giving back what others have generously given to me. So thank you everyone!
