Guys

I have a Stratus with 3 flight only

Its my only nitro machine left and want to go electric only

I would like a 15s and V-bar version for a real party machine.

so im thinking do i convert the stratus to E-Power or do i buy an Ion version 2 ?

I like the ion for the belt drive (like my razor) which allows easy gear changes and a very smooth model. but im not keen on the battery placement on the version 2, nor the fact that you have to add lead weight to the tail to get it to balance, let alone flying a model with all that weight up the front im sure it would feel strange in a lot of manouvers

anyone got some feed back ?

Im ready to do this now as i have all the electrics speedy and motor.

Thanks Dale

Why dont get "both"...

Here is pictures of my version two of my e-stratus.
(ps, I sold my Ion to get another E-stratus, the battery option on the ion x2 is too limited.)

Ive run everthing from kv450 to kv1050 on 12s on this machine.
Currently running Neu 1915/1.5Y - H version.

Estratus

Mr Mel Thats basicly what i was thinking too

the battery placement issues...

what size are the packs your useing there ?
how does that balance ?
Can you feel the packs weight, in relation to the posistion of them in the frames in flight ? eg pendulum effect ?

what gear ratios are you useing ?

are those belts from the razor or special make ups ?

did you make the side frames yourself ? or can these be bought ?

Thanks Dale

In the pictures im using 2 x 6s1p 5000 packs.
The pictures shows pretty much "worst case senario since the motor an be moved forward"
Still it fits either 10s, 12s, 15s (3 x 5s)

Heli balances 100% perfectly, which the Ion does not with 5000 packs.

It flies really great, you could make a spacer plate in the bottom to raise the packs as much as possible, but I never felt the need for it.

I use Razor & Ion-X2 parts for the whole setup except side frames + motor protection, Ive tried many setups, virtually any is possible since you can change maingear, upper pinion, lower pulley, belt, motor pinion.

The sideframes is made by me, pretty easy, either get CF (expensive) or G10 (cheap) 3mm.
I have the autocad drawing somewhere if you PM me with a email I can send it, what I did was print it and glued it on and went loose with a saw and dremel.

I get 5.30 flighttime today with my Neu, my target HS is 1950ish.

I would probably run around 10.8:1 for your required headspeed with the Actro.
Main gear: 95T
Upper pinon: 12T
Lower pulley: 30T
Motor pinion: 22T

I would probably go 4350 If I had to choose today, 5000 is heavy, but I need some mah to back it up during winter when the lipos dont perform that well.

Here is the partlist (based on that you have a nitro version to start with):

MA:
Pinion 12T for MA Ion-X2 (in the picture double gear version)
Lower shaft support from the Ion-X2 kit
Motor mount from the Ion-X2 kit (pretty much any mount can be used)
Pulleys and pinions from Ion-X2/Razor, 6mm bore.
Belt from Ion-X2 kit.

Other:
6mm x 90mm shaft from SDP-SI, HQ grade.
22 x 6mm Bearing for the clutch bearing holder from Boca.
2pcs 260mm 3mm CF profiles, G10 will work.
Motor protection (any alu or so will do, I used parts from an old motormount bought from esprit)

If gonna go VBar on it, I suggest getting QuickUK Raptor 90 blade grips, they are drop on.
+ a Mikado swash driver (Logo 600)

If you use 15s with 3700 5s packs, an ION-X2 will balance nicely, if you put 2 5s packs on the battery tray an one on the small shelf, that normaly is used for ECS.

Put the PowerJazz, as far back as possible.

Then it will be dead on. It can be an option if you don't want to make any own parts.

I will post some pictures later!
