Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > 8717's with Align 2 in 1, help!

I built up my Vibe 50 with a total of 4 8717's, 7703D/8900, JR 921 rx, and have an Align 2 in 1 (Looks like the newest version of it) with the Align 1900 (and an extra one for more flights) pack for power. Am I going to have any problems with this setup?

If nothing sucked how could anything be cool?

Depending on your flying style, you could potentially have some problems. The 2-1 is only rated at 6a output. The 8717's on the cyclics can each pull up to 3-4a during hard collective maneuvers. A better, but more expensive alternative, is the SGP ReactorX. It regulates a 7.4v rx battery down to 6v or 6.8v @ 15a continuous output. The rx then gets 5.2v for the gyro, governor, etc.

Take a look at the Fromeco Arizona regulator, just a good (if not better) than the Reactor and a lot less money.

Do a search. The word "problem" and any Align 2 in 1, esp with the 8717's or other ultra high draw servos, is remarkably common.

Just get a bigger pack and go 8v.

Right now the only one I can even recommend is the Reactor X.

Any why wouldn't you recommend the Fromeco Arizona?

While the Arizona is a good regulator, it does not do the same thing that the ReactorX does.

The Arizona only regulates the gyro/servo to 5.0v while the rest of the rx get 5v-6v. If you decide to run everything else at 6v, then you may still need to step down the governor/throttle servo (depending on what you use).

The ReactorX supplies 6v or 6.8v (user selectable) @ 15a continuous directly to the cyclic servos (they plug into the ReactorX) and then 3 leads from the ReactorX plug into the slots where the cyclic servos would go. These leads then supply the rx with 5.2v @ 5a. This ensures that everything else plugged into the rx does not get too much voltage.

I used the Arizona regulators in my helis for 2 years and they are good regulators. But with the advent of power hungry servos, like the 8717's, I feel the ReactorX is the better choice. It does everything in one unit. There is no need for any additional step downs/regulators. It is very easy to set up and very robust.

The Reactor X is the only regulator that says on the package that it will do the job. Has a continuous current rating above what you entire electronics system can pull. Just about everything else is boarder line or too low.

Do you believe everything you read on the packaging? No offense, but I'd like to see more substance and less marketing hype....

Well based on advise here and research elsewhere on RR, I ordered the Fromeco Arizona regulator and the pin flag switch. Should be here tomorrow and be in the air by Wed hopefully. I just need to find a nice battery to use with it....

The Align system is good too but using them with 8717 servos is just too much.

BTW the fromco's advertised continuous current is lower than what a group of 8717 servos could easily pull during a flight. The only choices IMHO are to run a 2s setup with the specktrum step down OR the ReactorX. I dont think anyone can say they have had an issue with either of these options.

The only way an 8717 is gonna draw 4Amps is if the servo is stalled. You cant stall 3 servos at once. The Arizona, thats one of the most robust regulators on the market, can handle 3 8717s on a 2s pack,no problem, many dudes in here are doing it as I type! You not gonna get many flights but the Fromeco stuff is tuff!

If the packs are being discharged in less flights that means these servos draw more current then any other servo.
