Why? The Stratus has one of the best heads in the business. Maybe you should fly one before you go changing it. I think you would be taking it down a notch if you were to change it.

Currently flying:
Trex 600N Pro, BW Stratus, Aurora!

Correct, MA has the best heads and the rest just copied them. Even though they claim it is a Heim design. Just justifying.

Trust me u will be doing an injustice to that Stratus if u do that, fly one then you will see it needs nothing, that is one GREAT thing about MA they dont play the upgrade game they fly AWESOME right out of the box......Ivan!

I don't despute the stratus is good but things can always be made better if this was'nt the case then why release a bobby watts special with different frames etc. The only thing that has me sitting on the fence about buying this Heli (was waiting for a Aurora) is the Canopy one word ugly. Maybe they look better in the flesh but the pictures I have seen are bad. But mechanically I really like the heli over the Snergy. But looks wise the Snergy kicks its arse. I wish I could fly one before I bought but no one where I live flys them. Thanks

The Kasama conversion is not a Stratus upgrade (downgrade much more likely). As far as the canopy, they're not ugly at all. Go to an event and take a look at someone elses'.

In real life, the canopy actually looks very cool and is one of those things that grow on you. When you see a Stratus side by side with an Aurora or Syn, the Stratus looks bigger and better in my opinion.

It has that old classic, never outdated look. I use to love the Sny canopies but now I don't. It's the opposite with the Stratus.

How can you think this is ugly? This is the sexiest heli I have ever owned.

Ghost rider very nice paint job Maybe in the flesh they look sweet. If the Kasama is no good is it worth getting the bobby Watts Stratus

My answer would be yes, get the BW version but I guess it all depends on your flying style. The BW version is designed for hard core super fast 3D, but it can also be tamed down if need be. It is a very, very aggressive heli that will do and take anything you can throw at it and come back asking for more. Quality is absolutely second to none. When you open up the box, it just oozes quality.

If that does not convince you, take a look at this video of Bobby Watt's flying the Stratus. That should do the trick for you. It did for me.

Also, look around the MA forum or any other forum and try and find somebody that is not happy with their MA heli. It's very hard to find!

Well, since this thread is going a few different places, here is my take on it.

The Straty itself...
IMHO is one of the best all around 3D helis available. It really need nothing accept to be built as per the manual and perform the normal flight tuning. The head is killer, esp with the new one piece dampers.
If you are looking for hard, hard 3D then go for the BW frames and bell cranks. If you want good all around and kick a$$ 3D, then go with the updated standard frames and have a ball.

Kasama...

They make some interesting stuff but I don't think it is for everyone. I personally am not a fan of the Stratus conversion. It is like trying to make touch ups to the Mona Lisa.

Canopies...

I have loved the Stratus/ Fury canopy since day one. There is just something about it the looks so good in the air. It is clean and classic yet still very modern. I am even going to fit a Fury canopy on my Predator gasser.

My dealer is trying to sell me a stratus with a tempest 3d head yet I have been told that the stratus head is shorter between the blade grips than the tempest head therefore the stratus is more aggressive is this correct I want this Heli for Hard 3d

I have flown the Tempest 3D head and the Stock stratus head. As far as Hard fast 3D, I think the Stratus head is a little snappier and is much cheaper to repair in a crash. The tempest head does have a much wider bolt hole to bolt hole distance. It cuts through the wind like no other but it did not feel to me like it has the same "pop" the stock head does. I run 710's on mine and have no issues. If you fly aggressive blades like V's, you will have to watch your collective management a little but other than that, it is a killer combo.

That would be Glenn trying to sell you the tempest head, i have one with the tempest head also, it doesnt have the Pop that the normal Stratus head does but the tempest head tracks better and offers adjustability where as the std Stratus doenst, not that you need to adjust it.

I can honestly say ALL brands of the machines fly Unreal, NO machine will make you fly better, only Stick time will.

Buy a strong reliable machine where you can get parts quickly, and Glenn will back you with service thats excellent, speaking from experiance there.

Get a Stratus you wont regret it

Archeli is pretty much a waste of space these days; it used to be good before the $$ and politics ruled ...

If you want to se a BW Stratus flown hard , come to the Coffs Harbour event , (in NSW, Australia...), where Gavin Broadbent , an MA factory pilot , will be putting his through its paces .. I'll even have my std Stratus's there , putting around the sky, as will be my Spectra G's and my Razors..... It's hard to fly anything else after you've given an MA product a workout...... I haven't seen anything that comes close to MA quality and the rock steady feel......

Hi Dalbe,

There are a few stratus fliers on archeli

Now about the heads

I have tried both the Tempest 3D head and the standard stratus head on my stratus, and for cost of repair the standard stratus head is great value.

As for playing around with head setup if you want to try different delta's and ratio's then sure go with the Tempest 3D head.

Personally I found the tempest 3d head tracked smoother in large aero's which at the time was my main area of flying. With the stratus standard head it's great for great 3d (more pop etc...)

Both heads are absolutely great to fly and you would love either one.

Cheers,
Warrick
