Got Jet Fuel? Turbine Helicopters > Jetcat Ver 6.0H Software Manual

I just upgraded my ECU from 5.0 to 6.0 for use with new kerostart plug, all is GREAT, new software and new plug turbine sounds much smoother and starts much quicker, at least it seems that way to me!! I'm just looking for software manual for reading material. GSU says version is 6.0H, any body know were to down load matching manual? The one on Jetcat USA say 6.0 but it is no different then 5.0 and I know there is differences. I like the 50 second spool up option, be GREAT with large heavy multi blade rotors!!

there is no Manual for the V6H

The only manual is for the V6, which can be downloaded from JETCAT USA..

There is not many differences, the biggest change was from 4.9 to V5 where you had the drain gas tank facility plus Kero start, along with a few other mods..

I am currently running V6E

I Noticed on jetcat USA they have the V6E manual, i have gone through it like yourself and compared it to my ususal V6 and there is no difference...

I suppose the updates are like firmware updates on electrical equipment, or updates on a PC, they just change peramters that make servicing and reading information a lot easier when your turbine is sent back for service/repair...

Like yourself i would love to know what the firmwarwe updates do etc, but i suppose it is mainly for their technical depts benefit not ours us pilots -

The info above is my opinion and reason only...

Jet Cat purchase and kero start

Back onto my question about service of Jet Cat SP-H5 in UK if I purchse unit done 10 hours approx.

Got answers from other post, but also if I wanted kero start does ecu have to go to germany also for update?

I see digitech-turbines offer a kero kit and will update ecu foc with purchase of kit. Is this a viable package and does it affect any warranty? Has anyone any experience with this kero start?

Thank You

Rob

Rob, I believe you will need ECU version 5.00Q at a minimum to use kero start. And the newest kero plug (the v3) runs best with the 6.00 firmware, as they are optimized for each other. The ECU does need to take a vacation to Germany for the update.

I'm not familiar with the Digitech system.

I'm not familiar with the Digitech system.

they may use that more in jets, i am unsure of anyone who uses a different ECu other than the JETCAT dedicated ECU, although i have seen on one machine a JETCAT SPH5 using an Orbit ECU, that AFAIK is the only one i have ever seen.

I would think like any machine if you start using non dedicated parts then you may invalidate the warranty, which is worht it in my opinion as it lasts for 3 years and stays with the turbines no matter how many times it is sold within that 3 yrs.

That is worth sticking with Jetcat.

I know Wren can use different ECU's but i dont think Jetcat can, please dont quote me on that, everything is done in house with jetcat so it is designed around a complete set.

Jet Cat Parts and Warranty

Thanks for info to date

I'm not sure of warranty on this used unit as it is about 2 years old and 10 hours and ecu is ver 5 something.

On 3 years Jet Cat warranty is that based on regular returns for service?

IMPERGALLO: on previous comments about warranty I noticed that wren said or advised bearing changes at 25 hours but the warranty is only 20 hours on the website.

Which makes Jet Cat an exceedingly better option if it is covered for 3 years.

When I had to upgrade to new version 2 plug due to my first plug burning out I just bought the new plug only to find out it would not start with version 5.0 software and then had to send ecu in for upgrade. Jetcat USA did the upgrade and turned the ecu around same day they received it but it still cost me a week of shipping waiting time as they are on the opposite side of the country from me. My suggestion if you purchase new plug to send you ecu in for software update same time or you may have start issues like I did and have to wait yet more time to play with your toy and that sucks!!

Kero start battery

What is the best battery pack to use on the Jet Cat kero start?

I am told to use 2S and Not 3S with lipo.

Also what size of pack. Will somrthing like 2500mah be ok or am I looking for something like 4000mah?

Another avenue to explore I guess.

I am using a SANYO nicad 2400 battery, on KERO using the new Version 3 kero start, on that battery i get 3 starts,

The usage per start 510mps, so theoretically i could get 4 starts, but i think that is pushing it...

Hope this helps.

Some are using a more powerful NIMH,4300 and above,

I am sticking with what i got for the time being.

Rob, within your particular weight and size limits, bigger capacity is better. The higher capacity cells give you more starts and are able to better handle the high draws of the plug when it's in operation- which is a relatively short time. This is all based on my use with NiMH. I have not used LiPo or LiIon with the ECU/plug so I can't comment there.

Went to a full size helicopter only air show this weekend and every time an aircraft started up it make me think: sound's like a kerostart! And, of course, they are!
