Congrats on your score!

I have to wait 3 more days for mine to arrive...
Now I got to get my hands on a flysoft trigger and the wired remote and make a trigger

I've been playing with the Xsi and my 20mm prime for about the last hour. What a combo! I'm so stoked with this camera so far. Live view does output through the video jack. The problem is autofocus when using liveview, it looks like we'll have to just set the camera to infinity.

I'll be shooting with it all next week from the heli so I'll get a better feel for it. Oh yeah, the 3 inch lcd is nice!

BTW, it uses a different battery than the Xti.

You should be doing this anyway. The results are more consistent.

Trigger

Hey what kind of trigger device would you use with the XSI?? I am currently using a GentlED on a Canon 30D.

I think liveview is a waste of time. I have it on my 40D & never used it, can't really see a use for it unless your blind! Just another gimmic not needed...what's next mp3 & video? then I will leave canon.

Ross,

Why do you think it is useless? Does it not replace the need to wire a CCD camera to the viewfinder?

I guess we are each entitled to our own opinions .... I love LiveView on my 40D, I use it about 50/50 with the eyepiece I reckon. Checking the effect of different white balances without having to take a photo first, light box work, group photo where you can manually focus to ensure you get the focus spot exactly where you want it ... I love it!

I guess it depends what type of photography you want to do with it ....

My 2p,

Are there any problems with the live view? Can it replace the CCD camera? Does the 40D have the same live view as the new XSI?

I've been shooting consistent sharp aerial photos using autofocus for years, so I would have to beg to differ. In all my experience with different lenses I've found the focus at infinity changes slightly with different aperture settings, so I'm never really at infinity on focus. Also, when we're shooting inspection photos we have to have autofocus. We could be anywhere from 8 feet to 100 feet from our subject in the same flight.

The photo shows what the LCD looks like in liveview. This is the same as on your video output, which is nice because it displays the camera data just like you see it.

BTW, for those of you who have made a video tap using the Canon eyepiece extender for the Xti, you'll have to do some creative "carving" with a blade to get it to fit on the Xsi. Not a big deal but be prepared.

smithprod.. the xsi is supposed to have a "live mode" where it uses contrast af so it can focus in "live view"... have you tried that yet?

it is a specific feature just for auto focusing in live view..

I am really glad to hear that you say the live view does video output!

I was just gambling thinking that it would.. I knew it would, but there was that slight chance that it would be disabled or something! Phew...

I have to wait until the 16th.. thats when mine is scheduled to arrive! I just tracked it.

Just handled a demo, seems to fill the bill for live view. Seems once the live view is set for focus (near infinity) it will stay there. Actual focus for each shot seems to be independant, but didn't get a chance to test all the settings.

I'm going to play with the liveview some more when I get back home. I'm out of state on a shoot so I'm just using my video tap from my Xti until I experiment some more with liveview. I'll be shooting aerials with the Xsi all week so I should have some feedback soon.
