Does anyone have experience with Minicopter's AP landing gear? It comes with carbon fiber plates that can be used to replace the battery compartment, allowing the gear to be bolted directly below the transmission compartment. Or it can be mounted conventionally. Any opinions?

Steve S.

The fuselage frame set that was added to the first landing gears does not fit to the mounting holes in the landing bows. So do not mount this. We have removed these parts now.

I've got it. I had a lot of trouble initially mounting it, since I'm running a cf-30, but with a couple hours, about 6 holes drilled, it looks sweet. I've got to get some pics, as the heli looks so much better now!

Did you mount yours under the battery compartment? Notwithstanding Gerd's excellent advice, I am still considering mounting the gear right under the upper frame and using that humongous CF plate for the battery packs, saving quite a bit of weight. I think I can do it if I use the aluminum spacers from the bottom of the battery compartment and drill a bunch of new holes.

I got rid of the battery box ( the lower frame). I used the fuselage mount, and redrilled it, and adjusted the mount, but my batteries, powerjazz, and helicommand profi all sit on the plate.

If you got rid of the lower frames did you also get rid of the bearing plate? (#421)

I've been thinking of getting rid of the lower frames as well when I get my mount. Just wondering how you guys are doing it. Got any pics yet?

Thanks Rhett for posting the pics.

Gerd, so you do not sell the AP landing gear any longer?

Of course we will offer it like before, I meant only we have removed these small frame parts for fuselage mount from the landing gear set. But we will make new ones that fit with the gear and send a pair to each one who has purchased an AP gear set. In my opinion it looks very good.

Ah I get it... damn I couldn't figure out what you guys were saying about the frame until I checked out the Minicopter shop. Frame #833 correct?

This is what I've wanted to exactly do. I knew there was a way. Thanks Rhett!

I think it'll also be cool to be able to modify the AP landing gear as an underslung mount. I mean have it rotate and mount a gimbal underneath...

I just received new and larger CF side pieces from Gerd in today's mail. So I am finally ready to try to put something together. Some improvisation will still be needed.

Steve S.

I got them also. I'm not sure what they are for, but I can tell you, I'm not taking my heli apart, unless she desperately needs some tuning!

Well, I've got my MJ2 running so sweetly right now (and with a newly cleaned camera sensor to boot ) that I am going to get out the tools and put the new mount on the J2. It will certainly be a one or two week project, given my other current commitments . I will post the results.

Steve S.
