Exactly.........

Quality has less to do with the price.......it's the darn batteries and chargers that scare peeps.

Tracy,

I don't know, but you probably got an old double-staged Ion-x w/Hacker motor and esc. This motor will not last very long and the esc is barely 10s capable (and the gov does not work properly). Secondary gears are only good for ~ 50 flights as well.

That's why these birds sell for so cheap.

However, if you want to spend quite a bit more and upgrade it to an Ion-x2 (w/belt drive), an Actro 32-3 motor and PowerJazz esc, you will have a great 10-12s heli. This motor, esc, and upgrade will set you back ~ $800-900 though (not including battery flight packs and chargers/balancers).

Even with these added costs, you will end up with a E-heli you can be very proud of imop.

Cheers,
TomC

Yeah if you bought an original Ion-X (not the latest X2), then that would be prone to sell for a "cheap" price. If it's equipped with the old Hacker ESC and motor, then it will sell even cheaper.

I agree with the posts above. It's the 12S price tag and supporting electronics that scare people away, leaving few who are actually willing to pay for a quality .90 size electric ship.

I am going to bring her to Ion X2, I am sure I will need a new ESC to run for 12S. With My above setup, How much do you think it's cost to bring her to Ion X2 without batteries?

cgbole,

Do you have a list of required parts, where to buy, and instructions? I already re-configured my lipos like the X2. I just dont have the pully system.

Tracy,

Sounds like you got a great deal. The Actro single stage is a great 10s heli. You just need to replace your 95t maingear with a 100t maingear for 10:1 ratio and it will fly great and motor/esc will run a lot cooler.

If you are going to upgrade anything, I'd start off with a PowerJazz esc (~$400). The Ion-x2 upgrade kit is ~$300 last time I looked. On 12s most use a 11.3-11.6:1 ratio. You just need to talk to MA about what kind of flying you want to do and they will supply the right gearing with the upgrade kit. Chuck's upgrade looks pretty cool as well, but you need to be able to modify things a bit.

Cheers,
Tom C

i don't know the exact ratio off the top of my head, but mark got the pulleys from Ron's they were razor parts. the mount is the stock mount doubled up, and shortened on the rear. also had to shorten the rear channel to get everything slid back. the bottom shaft support wasn't really needed but since there was a shaft there, we JB welded a flange bearing in a old tempest or mabey fury? tank mount and bolted the sucker down.
it was almost as easy as converting a stratus to E power....
right now i'm working on converting a Tempest to E power...
give it a wack, it's really not as intimidating as it might look or sound...

Thanks, I feel much better now, I thought I will have to spend another $1500 for upgrade. This is my first MA brand helicopter I hope I will like it better than my T rex 600 and I am totally confusing about this helicopter complication. I might need you all help in the future once I got her up the ground.

I think you will like the Ion way more than the Trex. The Ion X will not develope the slop that is typical of Align stuff.

Here is how I got the batteries (TP6S5000) to fix under the conopy on my ION.
I left the back standoffs stock. I replaced the middle standoffs with some that were 9mm, and I bolted the front to the frames by drilling a new hole in the batt plate to match the front most frame support. I replaced it's standard cap screw with a button head so it wouldn't hurt the battery. I removed the front standoff that went between the battery trays completely. It is the same on both sides. BTW This will only work if you convert to a belt setup. The stock gear setup is too wide to narrow the batteries enough.
