Posted this in the electric's but thought I would get a better response here.

"Does anybody have an explanation for why the sensor just dies on you?
I have had 2 so far and I know the last time I used my heli the light sensor was on but just checked the heli this evening and the sensor light is out again
I always take great care putting my helis away so I know no damage was done in that department,I took good care on both times to install the sensor on the engine correctly using the arctic thermal glue and all was fine when I flew her, but man this BUGS me BIG time.
Maybe CSM need to look at the sensor and substitute for a better and longer lasting sensor because the one's they give to you SUCK BIG TIME"

Hope your reading this Mr Mill's

Agreed they are way too fragile. I have toasted 2 for no apparent reason...

Hi Guys,

Try high temp RTV to glue it in. Better energy absorption characteristics. Heat transfer still appears to be excellent (at least for me).

Keep 'em flying.

Not for me. The RTV compound appeared not transfer heat to the sensor and I ended up having too much lean runs even at 90C temp. I advise using the Thermal Epoxy compound.

Hi All,

Check out this thread for the mounting position of the CarbSmart sensor (easy install -- no engine removal required) and EagleTree data to prove that the heat transfer is effective using high temp RTV.

If it's made by man, It can and will fail, just a matter of time.

I have no idea what that comment is doing here. Anyway...

I bought some Silver Thermal RTV Compound at a local electronic shop. It is good up to 392F degrees. The stuff has not one word of English on it and only has Japanese print on it. Another name is RTV Silicone Adhesive Sealant

product# TSE3941

A 5.3 oz tube cost me $48. But I like the fact RTV compounds have some vibration absorption properties.

Hi Sam,

Should be great, but ooohh, that price. That puts it just about on the precious metals scale. It cost almost as much as CarbSmart!

Let us know how it works!

A copy of the email which I sent to CSM, I just can't let this lie sorry

Hi
I have started a thread on RunRyder and Helifreak about the sensor that comes with the carbsmart and would like your views on the matter.
I have now bought 3 sensor's for the carbsmart in 3 weeks and at £5 a time it does not look for a quality product which yourselves manufacture. £5 a week = £260 a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please could you comment on this matter and enlighten why you give and inferior sensor for what is and excellent product.
I for one can't recommend this product highly enough but am a little reluctant when you supply this sensor
Thanks
Simon Codd

FWIW, I've had zero problems that weren't caused by myself. I've had only one sensor fail and that's because I accidentally positioned it in such a way that the plastic wire insulation melted and the wires shorted. Otherwise, I've just been careful when mounting them with Artic Silver thermal epoxy and they have been very reliable. Over a hundred flights on one and a couple crashes and it's still working fine.

Please tell us how your glued in your sensor, and what type of adhesive you used?

i grid away the inside of the fins till the sensor fit easy. then i added glue between the fins and slid the sensor down into the glue. then added glue to the top of the sensor and wiped off the access glue. i used the actric glue that eveyone recomends tha i found at grand rc
